Data Modernization - Current Events

Data Modernization - Current Events

Data Modernization, each of us have our own definition of this, and you can't go a day without someone evangelizing about modernization of some type, be it Data Culture, Data Modernization, Digital Transformation. This is a current-events piece, not a sales pitch.

Sometimes it is a good idea to look at other industries and situations for motivation or support for what you are trying to do internally. I have learned much as I have done 'data for good' projects over the last few years, be it for youth sports, racism & socio-economic discrimination, or health care topics that have not been tied to work. This has taught me the size and scope of data challenges, and how by working together for new approaches/solutions we can help each other and help society to help ourselves.

I am sharing this post so you can see a good article on the CDC and what they are up against. While it could be easy for this to become a political attack, please don't. It is intended to be food for thought, not selling anything and definitely not opening up a political can of worms. I am close enough to some of these topics to know that there is the traditional integration, and data definition challenges that all business have but they have one bigger, the state government machine challenges.

While many states will enact laws to require electronic claim submission, and for businesses to behave in this or that way, often they fail to provide the same level of cooperation with other stakeholders of data across many industries. Further, some states have a real need for modernization which impacts the CDC and the data problem the CDC has to deal with must be an absolute nightmare. The technologists at the CDC deserve our respect, as do those working at health care facilities nationwide.

Please use this article to support your work, and the drive for data modernization efforts, while at the same time appreciate those who are on the front-lines of data at one of our nations most vital organizations.
