The data governance cloud session I would really be interested in joining...

td;dr > I am interested how the big cloud service providers allow us data practitioners to succeed in our data governance jobs.

I continue to receive announcements for various conferences, seminars, and vendor sessions focused on data governance and "The Cloud". Usually it is an interesting enough topic with an accompanying presentation highlighting successes and potential pitfalls, but this doesn't get me very excited. If I am lucky, then I also get to learn why this particular vendors tool or professional service is the general solution to solve all of your data governance problems along with a pair of socks or even a notebook. However, my starting point is that data governance as a discipline is comprised of various sub-capabilities and I am usually agnostic to where and how they delivered or the enabling tools used to manage, report, and govern my data assets. At a minimum, a tool needs to have to have the appropriate functionality, as many of them do, along with the ability to effectively integrate with an existing architecture framework - business, data, and technology. (This integration almost always requires more effort and risk than expected but with a little metamodel knowledge and capable partners anything is "possible".)

In my mind, migrating to the cloud should be a seamless experience for the user. Whether deploying on a PaaS or IaaS platform, or even leveraging a SaaS vendor managed solution, moving to the cloud should be about shifting IT resources and is more of a policy / strategic roadmap discussion to ensure alignment, interoperability, and integration, as required by our partners and stakeholders.

So...the session I really want is to hear is from the large cloud vendors to learn about how they govern data, metadata, and support management of their customers data and metadata. What tools or techniques do they use to enable and empower their partners. Anyone who has ever developed a data/governance/risk program understands the need for effective deployment and ability to control and manage risks and obligations. If you have ever worked with FedRAMP or government partners then you may be keenly aware of the management and controls rail that has been implemented and tested at the infrastructure and applications levels to ensure confidence in a secure and stable environment. I want to hear about how the big cloud service providers allow us to do our jobs.

... If anyone has made it this far and would like to partner creating or facilitating such a discussion/paper please reach out.
