Creative writing Process

Creative writing Process

Creativity is an attempt to make a pocket of order in the cosmic chaos.

It is random, serendipitous, overwhelming and rare.

Some people go so far as to say it is closer to magic.

Strictly speaking this is not true.

There is a science to the process. I have noticed it is more easy for me to write a science fiction than romance short story. If creativity, in this instance, creative writing were random, I must be equally adept.

But I am not.

That is when I looked up for literature on the creative process.

So far the four step model is closer to my experience. I make metaphors effortlessly when I read books on wide range of topics. When I sit to write, somehow all that I have screened comes in handy. The brook of conceits breaks loose in my mind and I get frenetic trying to capture all that streams through me.

There is no mathematical, deductive, and absolute formula to it.

There is, however, a theoretical process that encapsulates the process:

  1. Preparation

Read, Reserach, and collect

2. Incubation

Think, make sentences in mind.

  1. Illumination

Take a break, let your mind wander

  1. Verification

Let the world know, hit Publish.

Consciously or not each time I create something, I roughly follow these steps.
