Cracking a Job Interview
A job interview is one of the parameters adopted by the companies to assess and analyse a probable candidate’s abilities and capabilities for the job. This interview can give nightmares to many candidates. Although cracking an interview is not some rocket science but for many it is really a hard nut to crack. The only sure shot way, then to crack an interview is to make sure that you do your homework and be well prepared for the interview. I’ve seen many good candidates with an impressive resume and strong skills failing miserably in the HR interview. So, without any further ado, let’s look at some crucial points that can help you clear an interview with flying colours.
Research
“Research is formalised curiosity. It is Poking and prying with a purpose.” You should do a proper research about the company for which you are appearing for an interview. Spend some time online, know the company’s line of business, it’s objective, nature of work and how you can contribute to the business and therein seek personal growth.
Practice
“Practice is the key to success,” is something we all know. Although, a very general statement, it really have a deep impact on your performance in the interview. I’ve seen people struggle to clearly put their thoughts in the interview. The only reason is, they did not practice their communication skills. So. Make sure you brush up your communication and interpersonal skills before the final interview. Start communicating with your friends to improve upon your skills and believe me, you’ll see the results.
First Impression
The way you communicate and way you present yourself plays a major role in an interview. Remember, the first impression is the last impression and way you dress speaks a lot about you. Make sure you’re dressed decently. Shabby clothes, informal attire, long beard are a strict no. Further, also give true facts(previous employment, hobbies etc.) as doing so will save you from the nervousness that comes with giving out false information. So, be true and be confident.
Stay Calm and Relaxed
Make sure that you are completely relaxed before the interview. Take proper sleep, have a good meal and stay calm and composed during the interview. Wish the interviewer nicely with a smile. Don’t stutter or take unnecessary stops while answering a question. Think before you speak.
These are some of the pointers that will help you smoothly sail through the interview process. Besides this, always make sure that you take feedback after your interview. This will help you improve and perform better next time you need to appear for an interview. Remember, the interviewer will assess you through what you will tell them. So, make sure answer as many questions as possible and do so in a nice, calm and composed manner.
