Course on “Future of Computing - on the Road to Quantum” by openHPI

The course on Future of Computing – on the Road to Quantum by openHPI offers people to learn about the present technologies that are the building blocks of the “Future of Computing”. This will be a three week course and covers topics on technology trends, new system architectures, and quantum computing. One-third of the course will introduce participants to the subject of quantum computing. We are working together with IBM Research and Development experts to give you insights from the industry. This is a self-paced course and in order to receive a certificate, you must:

·       Gain a record of achievement by earning at least 50% of the maximum number of points from all graded assignments.

·       Gain a confirmation of participation by completing at least 50% of the course material.

Week 1 – Technology Trends (~140 Minutes of Material)

·       Beyond Computer Architecture (Prof. Dr. Andreas Polze)

·       On the Road to Quantum Computing (Dr. Wolfgang Maier)

·       Energy-aware Computing (Max Plauth)

·       Artificial Intelligence (Ulrich Walther)

·       Edge Computing (Markus Lorch, Ph.D.)

Week 2 – New System Architecture (~160 Minutes of Material)

·       Hybrid Cloud (Boas Betzler)

·       Building Modern Applications at Scale (Isabell Sippli)

·       Programming Models for Massively Parallel Systems (Dr. Thilo Maurer)

·       System Integration of FPGAs (Bruno Mesnet, Alexandre Castellane)

Week 3 – Quantum Computing (~150 Minutes of Material)

·       History and Area of Application (Konstantin Konson)

·       Quantum Computing - How does this work? (Dr. Johannes Greiner)

·       Hands-on Experience (Konstantin Konson and Dr. Johannes Greiner)

·       Quantum Security Implications (Dr. Silvio Dragone)

·       The Fraunhofer Quantum Project (Dr. Ingolf Wittmann)
