Code / Node

Ha, I can still code it seems and it's a ton of fun as well, even though it's been a really long time since I had to write production code. It ran without a hitch and did the the job it was supposed to: ticketing & online payment for a triathlon event for the local swim team: Red Fish Neuchatel.

proud? yeah sure, but more happy and surprised about the fun of creating stuff than I thought I would have been. I can highly recommend doing something like this for anyone who works in the cloud infrastructure space, it will really change your perspective on what's important to your clients.

as for the techie bits bits (if you want to try):

  • NodeJS/JADE/MongoDB/bootstrap. this combination will  get you result quickly and is pretty forgiving (forget Github/SVN at your own risk)
  • EC2 & Route53 for compute
  • Amazon SES/Workmail for the mail gateway
  • Braintree as the payment provider (For credit card & paypal)
  • ... and stackoverflow

That was a lott of stack overflow I guess.... but in case you want to continue programming, I have a lott of programming work available.

Good job, Niels. At the end we all have passion for the technology :-)

Interesting post, I'd second Guillaume's comment and also suggest taking a look at AWS Lambda. Not that I am a coder (yet).

Yes/No, not for this one but I did test it (same for docker) - works like a charm.

Did you try ElasticBeanStalk for Node hosting in AWS ? This makes the deployment of Node code very easy !
