Cloud Computing? Nah nah nah--- Soul Computing is a level up from that

IT has been stuck in a fog for the last 5 years since the concept of Cloud computing evolved. This isn't a new concept we had bureau computing back in the 80's which did an ok job until the cost of on-premise came down with the distributed computing evolution.

Cloud is racing ahead at a pace of knots without a clear advantage for some customers who are on board. Where are we going on these journeys as it appears IT companies are herding us around in circles through the same gates for commercial gain by changing the names over the gates to confuse us.

We all ran away from proprietary vendors like WANG, Digital, Data General in the past but at least they left us with the foundation stumps of fully functional legacy applications that simply work and have done so for 40 years in many instances.

Cloud Vendors want your soul by locking you tightly into their religious dogma and some of the preaching does makes sense however digital transformation isn't something new and the take up is very lumbering and slow. Autonomous computing is certainly coming up the visible spectrum with Autonomous agents becoming more prevasive in processing large volumes of data to be passed to artificial intelligence platforms to provide positive outcomes.

This I think will evolve faster towards being replaced with another AI, namely Autonomous intelligence that will take and process the Autonomous Agent collected data and make decisions without any intervention from people who to date are being asked to interpret results of standard AI. All we will need to do is measure and monitor in the utopian digitally transformed world until such time as we are dumbed out by machines advancing past even that function.

Todays vendors are still very focused on the hardware fashions, 3 tier, Converged, Hyperconverged where as the reality is that the world is software defined and has been for 30 years and all that is needed is the hardware beneath to be stable, secure and performant.

Today's hardware is also very inefficient compared to previous generations with stacks and stacks of X86 based processors consuming the worlds fossil fuels processing highly inefficient code making previously simple tasks heavy on resources in enormous data centres spreading masses of irrelevant data globally in milliseconds.

In the old days when we had kilobits of memory to work with we could put people on the moon. We haven't been back or put people on any planet since the X86 chip was invented even with Terabytes of memory to go with it.

Have we got closer to God with Cloud computing ? I'm not so sure but we might have an apparition and invent something soulless and Autonomous that might get the answer ahead of us in finding out where the truth is rather than entrusting our soul in faith to our vendors telling us Cloud is great, until two years time of course when they tell us that idea evaporated and we've all moved on from that fashion.
