Cloud Computing Journey Documentation

Day 1

From Curiosity to Cloud Accounts!

Today marks the beginning of something exciting my Cloud Computing journey!

After hearing about the power of cloud technologies and the endless opportunities in DevOps and Cloud Engineering, I’ve finally taken my first step, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Here’s what I dived into on Day 1:

What is Cloud Computing?

At its core, cloud computing means using someone else's powerful computer called a server to store data, run apps, and deliver services online instead of using your personal device or office computer.

You don’t need to buy a super-expensive setup. You just rent space and power as you need it, kind of like paying for electricity or internet and it scales with you.

Introduction to Cloud Platforms

I got familiar with the three major cloud providers:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Each of them offers tools and services that companies use to build apps, manage data, and operate at scale. I’ll be learning how to use all three over the coming weeks.

Setting Up My Cloud Accounts

Starting meant actually getting my hands dirty:

  • Signed up on AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Verified my phone number and email
  • Filled in basic personal details
  • Learned about Free Tier accounts which let beginners like me explore and practice cloud tools with no upfront cost (AWS gives 12 months of free access!)

Key Concepts I Learned Today:

  • Servers 🖥️ – The powerful computers behind the scenes doing all the work
  • Storage 📦 – Where your files, databases, and backups live in the cloud
  • Networking 🌐 – The roads that connect your services to the world

These are the core building blocks of every cloud system and I’ll be learning how to use them hands-on soon.

Honestly, it’s a lot of new terms.

Words like "availability zones", "regions", and "compute" came up and yes, I was a little confused 😅

But the best part? I’m okay with not knowing everything at once.

I reminded myself:

“Every expert was once a beginner who chose not to give up.”

So I’m trusting the process and taking it one step at a time.

Tomorrow, I’ll explore the AWS Console and dive into two foundational services:

  • EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) a virtual machine you can launch.
  • S3 (Simple Storage Service) cloud storage for your files.

Day 1 might seem small, but it’s the first brick in the foundation of something big.

if you’re thinking of starting your own tech journey, do it afraid, but do it anyway.

I’ll be documenting this journey daily and sharing what I learn from wins to roadblocks.

Let’s grow together! If you’re learning too, drop a comment or connect with me.

We got this. 💪🏽
