Cloud Computing 101

Cloud computing refers to the delivery of computing services, such as storage, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence, over the internet (the cloud). These services are provided by cloud providers, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.

One of the main benefits of cloud computing is the ability to access and use technology resources on an as-needed basis, rather than having to invest in and maintain these resources in-house. This can be particularly useful for small and medium-sized businesses that may not have the budget or expertise to manage their own IT infrastructure.

Another advantage of cloud computing is the ability to scale resources up or down as needed, based on the demands of the business. For example, a business may need additional storage or computing power during a busy season, but not during slower times. With the cloud, it is easy to increase or decrease resources as needed, without having to make a large upfront investment.

Cloud computing also offers increased security and reliability, as the cloud providers are responsible for managing and maintaining the infrastructure. They also have extensive security measures in place to protect data from cyber threats and other vulnerabilities.

There are several different types of cloud computing services, including:

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): This type of service provides the underlying infrastructure, such as servers, storage, and networking, for businesses to build and run their own applications.

Platform as a Service (PaaS): This type of service provides a platform for businesses to develop, test, and deploy their own applications, without having to worry about managing the underlying infrastructure.

Software as a Service (SaaS): This type of service provides access to software applications over the internet, rather than having to install them on individual devices. Examples include customer relationship management (CRM) software and productivity tools like Microsoft Office 365.

Cloud computing has become an increasingly popular option for businesses of all sizes, as it allows them to access the technology resources they need to operate and grow without the upfront costs and maintenance associated with traditional IT infrastructure.
