Cloud Byte 1 - Type of Cloud Deployment
You must have worked or still working in an organization who have a dedicated department for networking , maintenance of infrastructure & servers etc. With shift of technology organizations are moving from On-premise infrastructure to cloud base offerings. In fact large number of organizations running their application on cloud. Netflix , Instagram, Pinterest, Dropbox are some example of companies relaying on cloud for their operations.
Different organizations choose different type of cloud computing models based on their requirements. Some create their own cloud (Private Cloud) like Facebook, Some remain in Public Cloud (Pinterest) , some adhere to hybrid cloud like Google which uses Private cloud & public cloud both. Now lets talk about what are different type if clouds.
Public Cloud - A public cloud environment is owned & managed by a commercial cloud service provider. These provider leverage computing, network , storage over pay per use model, means you need to pay for services you are using & how long you are using. This is model is great for organizations who want on-demand access to computing & storage. With this model you can easily scale your applications. Public clouds are highly reliable, lower cost, zero maintenance & can be scaled on demand. These cloud work on shared resource model means in this model server you are using to host your application is shared with some other organization as well though cloud service provider is responsible for security of cloud. This model is not considered as safest option to run applications with sensitive information.
Private Cloud - Big organizations uses Private cloud , they maintain their own data centers & high available resources. Though Private cloud are owned by only one organization they do not share their resources with any other organization. These organizations have option to configure their cloud environment as per their choice which is a limitation in Public Cloud as in public cloud you have to choose prebuilt configurations what commercial cloud provider are offering.
Hybrid Cloud - As name suggest this deployment is combination of Public and Private Cloud Or Public Cloud with existing On Premise resources those are deployed in cloud. This cloud give you benefits of both Public cloud as well as you existing infrastructure. Lot of organization use this model for running high availability application on cloud while having sensitive information in their own Private Cloud or On Premise Infrastructure.
