Be a Chosen
What would it mean to proactively seek out being "chosen" by others?
As others busily prepared for their Super Bowl parties, my wife Wendy and I enjoyed a slow start to our day.
Sunday is almost always a time for me to get together with other believers, worship God, and learn something from our pastor. Summed up, the message focused entirely on going beyond the nascent stages of believing by committing to a deeper relationship that involves growing through discipleship with Desire, Denial, Obedience, and Daily Decisions.
After a charming lunch at a local beach café, my heart and mind began to reflect deeper… The title of the message "Being a Disciple".
Being…
A couple of minutes away, we parked at the beach and pulled out our set of reclining chairs for an early afternoon meditation. I sat there and the word "beach" kept bouncing around in my brain. I couldn't shake it. So, I began to write…
As I was sitting on the beach today with my wife, I reflected on the moment. The serene beauty of life's endless waves, bringing constant, subtle change; shaping and contouring the earth beneath it. The moment emphasized the importance of being. A human being. Not a human doing. There is no consideration of "or, not to be."
Simply being brought me to the word "beach"… "Be a ch…" Be a what? "Chosen" stood out as the first positive word.
"Be a chosen."
What would it mean to be a "chosen" in other people's lives? To be a chosen by my wife? To be chosen by my son? What did it mean to be chosen at work? Once your foot is in the door, it can be so easy to fall into a complacency of just being; just existing. Even if it's a rut of daily doing. Being chosen stood out as a proactive mindset with a goal that properly places the importance on others. Now… to be chosen for the right reasons! I'll leave that thought for another day.
Thoughtful and Beautiful
