Certified K8s Admin
CKA: Certified Kubernetes Administrator

Certified K8s Admin

Exam Date: 27-AUG-2022

Exam Prep Plan:

  1. Course: https://www.udemy.com/course/certified-kubernetes-administrator-with-practice-tests/
  2. Kubernetes Documentation
  3. Free Online Practice: https://labs.play-with-k8s.com/
  4. Kubernetes Labs/Sandboxes in O'REILLY
  5. Minikube setup in laptop

Exam Experience:

  1. No dual monitor allowed
  2. Extensive environment and system checks
  3. PSI software launches a Ubuntu VM in a crammed space. If you've a smaller laptop, its not visually appealing and hard on eyes
  4. Total of 17 tasks to be completed in 2 hours
  5. We can open multiple tabs of K8s Documentation. No restriction on that.
  6. Autocomplete and Aliases are already set.

Task Distribution:

  1. Backups/Restore ETCD, Upgrading cluster,Creating Deployments, Updating Deployments, Exposing services, Creating Network Policies, Ingress/Egress rules, tasks to fetch data based on JSONPATH/Custom Columns, RBAC, SideCar setup, Pod with NodeSelector, Multi Container setup, Persistent Volumes and Claims, Monitoring Logs of a Container, Monitoring Pods Resource Consumption, Troubleshooting Broken Cluster [Especially Kubelet Related]
  2. Almost all the topics are covered in the 17 tasks ranging from simple tasks like fetching details to super complex tasks.
  3. Not much emphasis on Security (in the latest version). I believe this will be covered in CKS.

Summary:

  1. Complete the CKA course and labs
  2. Get super familiar with K8s documentation as this is an open book exam and all the config files are built based on examples
  3. DO NOT MISS OUT using Killer.sh practice environment you get when the exam is purchased. It will help you get familiar with the env and setup. Also, the Qs in Killer.sh are way too complex than the original exam.
  4. You have 2 attemps to finish the exam. Even if you fail once, thats totally fine. Atleast you will get used to the environment and the types of Qs.
