CCI - Creative Collaborative Intelligence (Next to AI)
Some of us were debating online on the definition of AI and we all gave a number of definitions that could possibily thought of. Some of them came very close, many of us kept on moving away as far as we could from the real definition of AI. Here are a few that were discussed
AI Defintion #1 - "cool things that computers can't do"
This is a very generic defintion. Not all cool things that computers can't do can be classified into AI. For example, Having a philosophial mind, thinking through emotionally (not just logical reasoning) is a cool think that computers "as of today" can't do.
AI Defintion #2 - "machines imitating intelligent human behavior"
I would say, the above statement can be used here too. This can be a close to good definition, but may not be complete. For example, a group of intelligent humans debating to arrive upon an important decision is a behavior that would take several years of research to make machines immitate, however, switching off cell-phone when you reach a gas station for filling gas in your car is an intelligent but logical behavior that machines can easily imitate by sheer programming.
AI Defintion #3 - "autonomous and adaptive systems"
As I learn AI, I understand that an autonomous system has an ability to perform tasks without constant guidance and an adaptive system is to improve by learning through continuous input data and processing it in multiple ways. Certainly, an adaptive system cannot be brought into AI definition, because it is all about learning by processing data through efficient algorithms. An autonomous system could be close to a human learning by experience without guidence.
Well the temptation of creating a new definition is like thirst that never quenches, keeps coming back.
New AI Definition : "Machines becoming creative collaborators with humans"
Creativity is the one that is a hard nut to crack. An intelligent human may not be creative if he/she just follows a given set of instructions to solve a problem. For example, A civil engineer may build the same building with a given architecture using known building materials and established techniques, a machine can easily replicate. However, If the engineer decides to bring in a creative approach of every room emitting a certain fragrance based on the weather, time of day, mood of people around and few other parameters, that is something is an additional touch that no books have taught the engineer. If machines can do such things which I strongly doubt would happen in the next 100 years, I would say we are entering the era of CI (Creative Intelligence) instead of AI (Artificial Intelligence).
So, what's is your new definition of AI?
