Broker to Coder? - I am now a Junior Web Developer
previous article 'Broker to Coder? - 11 weeks Full-stack time'
Well, that was an intense 12 weeks!! A really interesting journey thus far and not without its challenges, referring to my first article, I now at the very least know what the 'cloud' is :-)
week 11 we looked at react functional components vs classes( mainly focused on how data is passed slightly differently), dipped our toe into Typescript, and also built an app with Angular.js (to see the contrasts with React.js). Then there was a whole load of review sessions for vanilla javascript.
week 12 was tech test-tastic for most of the week, we were set an array of tech tests each day from functional challenges in vanilla js to spinning up quick react apps with API's. We also did a number of challenges on exercism, a really good little site for practicing vanilla js, and even the easy ones are far from easy!
So that's it for this chapter, I have learnt so much and highly recommend it to others who are seeking a more mentally challenging role. I must add though that it is no walk in the park, as with many things, there are weeks you feel you get it and then weeks you feel may never. Large dollops of Resilience and Perseverance are required throughout and beyond.
Happy to share thoughts with anyone considering making the change and I highly recommend nology as the place to do it, as they really do equip you well and genuinely care about helping you on your new career path.
Again please do point anyone looking for a junior developer in my direction or forward this article to them.
Thank you all for your words of encouragement, I will be back with an update soon no doubt.
Great work Phil, all of your hard work will be a huge asset to any company.
Good stuff Phil... For one minute I thought you were going to become a Pro golfer
Congrats mate and good luck, from brawn to brains just like that 👌
Congratulations Phil!
Good luck Phil. The hard work on re-skilling and retraining, coupled with your previous experience, will only help your future employer. All the best.
