Blockchain
What is Blockchain
What in the world is blockchain?! It is by far one of the most difficult concepts I have blogged about thus far. The basic purpose behind blockchain is to link records, documents, timestamps, transactional data using cryptography. The main benefit to blockchain is that since it spans across all networks, it cannot be hacked or altered from any single spot. It also serves as a unique way to confirm transactions, signatures, etc.
Don & Alex Tapscott define blockchain as “an incorruptible digital ledger of economic transactions that can be programmed to record not just financial transactions but virtually everything of value.” I want you to imagine the sharing features of Google Docs and how any person it’s shared with can edit/view it at the same time. Now imagine these sharing features, but instead of google docs, it’s all information, signed docs, etc.
What are some of the benefits to Blockchain?
- Blockchain encourages total transparency
- Communicate directly with peers (Eliminate the middle man)
- Cannot be hacked from a single point
- Records everything of value and keeps it secure
- Increase efficiency and lower costs
How does Blockchain Apply to Programmatic Advertising & Remarketing Campaigns?
Now that we know a rough layout of what blockchain is, we can discuss how it benefits programmatic advertising and remarketing campaigns. Programmatic advertising is the use of software to use digital advertising. Blockchain would make your life much easier if all the data was transparent. What is remarketing? It's a concept that companies use to keep it's products in your minds. For example, you were looking at a running shoe on your laptop, remarketing will get you to see ads for running shoes on your phone, tablet, etc. Now, imagine you are a company and want to target a select segment of customers who have bought a specific item in the past. You simply check and research the information that the consumers have bought and alter the information to try and decide what/when/how to remarket to these customers.
