The best user interface is no user interface
A computing system’ user interface mainly serves two purposes (excluding entertainment apps):
1) Enabling data input
2) Provide information for human decision making
Both of these functions are becoming largely obsolete.
1) IoT enables direct data input from the source into the computer system.
2) Artificial Intelligence automates the decision making.
The human user may only need to be involved in exceptional situations. But even this may be only a transitional phase as the discussion about eliminating pedals and the steering wheel, the user interfaces, from self-driving cars indicates.

Any update on this vision in 2019?
seems that immersive display technologies and more direct ways of input (gestures, eye tracking, even brain control see F8's announcements) will make the classic UI more and more obsolete in the upcoming years. Great for the end users, challenging for the solution suppliers as the product complexity, especially in the CPQ world, is not going down in parallel
