Behind the Scenes of My GitHub Copilot Session

Behind the Scenes of My GitHub Copilot Session

Last month, I co-presented a session on “GitHub Copilot & Best Practices with Vibe Coding” to over 80 tech professionals at the Wavicle Coimbatore office. Here’s a summary of my experience:

1. How I planned it

  • Overall session: I began designing the session to strike a thoughtful balance between foundational understanding and hands-on applicability. My goal was to make it valuable for both early-career developers and experienced engineers. We kicked things off by setting the context—what GitHub Copilot is, and how AI is fundamentally changing the way we write and think about code.
  • Format: To make the session more engaging, I relied on a mix of visual content and real-world scenarios that could resonate across different experience levels. I wanted the concepts to feel accessible but still rich with insight. One of the core ideas I introduced was Vibe Coding—a modern and intuitive approach that encourages developers to work fluidly with AI, iterate faster, and shift focus from syntax to solving real problems.

2. Engaging discussions during the session

What stood out to me most were the discussions that followed. The audience asked thoughtful questions about Copilot’s handling of licensed code, how it fits into secure or regulated environments, and how developers can avoid becoming overly reliant on AI while still leveraging its benefits.

These conversations reminded me that while AI brings speed and support, we still need to approach it with care, curiosity, and critical thinking.

3. Personal reflections

Personally, the experience was rewarding on multiple levels. Preparing for the session challenged me to explore Copilot more deeply—not just how it works, but how it fits into the bigger picture of software development.

It also helped me grow as a communicator, especially in breaking down complex ideas like AI limitations and code ethics into something clear and meaningful for a mixed audience.

Most of all, it reminded me that creativity, critical thinking, and context-awareness remain irreplaceable, even as AI grows more capable

A big thank you to everyone who joined, contributed, and co-created the learning atmosphere, and to Prabhagaran Palanisamy for delivering an outstanding live demo after my session.
