Azure DevOps Basic process template

Microsoft pushed a new process to DevOps - the Basic process which has more of a "let's get going" rather than "how does agile work and align with our processes" ring to it.

Basic is available when creating a new project. It's currently not possible to switch to Basic from any of the other processes (Agile/Scrum/CMMI), nor is it possible the other way around.

The general idea with Basic is to fulfil just that - the most basic requirements to jumpstart a development process. It's not important if it's a bug, error og something else entirely, but as long as it translates to some sort of issue then we mark it as that, and we can continue to focus on delivering results faster.

Microsoft is looking for feedback on use of the Basic process, so since we are only seeing it being put to use, then changes or additions will surely be in scope for this.

PROS

• Simpler than other processes for when you don't need advanced work items
• Can be used along with the rest of the DevOps functionality
• Possible to customize the process if you need a more advanced setup
• Great for smaller projects or to get started with DevOps

CONS

• You may have to spend some time to figure out if Basic is adequate for your project
• You cannot change from Basic to more advanced project processes later on
• If you need to add a lot of customizations you might consider using a different process
