Artificial Intelligence Today

Already AI is being seen as the next technology that is moving into jobs that do not require any type of physical activity and very low level decision making such as looking at documents and accounting for small firms etc.. AI has been growing by leaps and bounds both in the physical and the IT systems level and is now poised to take up activities of low level jobs in the western countries.

This will create both threats and opportunities in Asian countries. Opportunities for the present IT industry to create and maintain new level of Data / creating algorithms for such activities and so on. Threat is that even Asian countries could start using AI on large scale which will disrupt local economic activity cycle of JOB-> SALARY->SPEND->INTO ECONOMIC CYCLE.

Another aspect of AI is the way extremely difficult tasks / situation handling. eg. If there is a FIRE in a large building, the AI machine could scour the building and look for survivors and send back telematic data to the central agency so that rescue efforts can be concentrated on saving people instead of simple search and rescue. AI can also take decision making in events such as aircraft accident / high speed racing cars, High speed rail network to a level that human response may not be sufficient to avoid a complete disaster. AI in such cases would help to reduce the danger to a more acceptable level and help save lives and reduce the impacts.

AI does not do away completely with Human intervention, but the capability that it will build on its own at a later stage can eventually make it smart (not intelligent) to work out simple jobs in best ways.

Data crunching and other analytics is already a job that AI can comfortably chew these large data-sets without having to take inputs several times from humans.

In short, the AI field is growing wider and covering more types of human activities then every before. Time will tell how well it has been used. Our future too depends a lot on these AI Bots / Machines / Algorithms to solve many problems that we are faced with.
