The Answer is No!

The Answer is No!

Learn to Say No

"The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say ‘no' to almost everything." Warren Buffet

Do you feel like your life is out of control - way too many things taking up your time? Have you failed to make progress on the goals you set for yourself this year? One key reason may just be your inability to say no. It seems like such a simple thing to do, but it isn’t. Your inability to say this simple word is probably causing much more damage in your life than you realize.

Be Selective

I remember when I first started my job I was anxious to get involved with the community. Boy were there opportunities. I became involved with church committees, our children’s school, and numerous local non-profit boards. All of the volunteer work I did was certainly needed by the respective organizations. However, looking back I realize that there were many that I should have said no to. You see, my heart was just not in it. I agreed out of guilt. After I said yes, my heart told me I should have said no.

The Power Behind NO

As a Marine, I did my duty and served the organization faithfully. However, looking back I should have been more selective in what I said yes to. I have learned to be much more selective in what I say yes to now. If it does not fall into my sweet spot then I rarely say yes. You know what, it actually gets easier to say no once you understand the power behind it. You can still be kind. Brian Tracy says, “Say, “No, thank you. I appreciate you thinking of me. Right now I cannot make it. If that changes then I’ll let you know.” You can’t get much more respectful than that.

5 Reasons You Must Learn to Say NO

  1.  You won’t be able to say YES to those plans that accomplish your goals
  2.  Your plans become part of someone else's goals
  3.  Saying yes when you know you should say no causes stress
  4.  You will feel more in control of your life
  5.  By saying no you allow someone else to say yes

Getting control of your life and accomplishing your goals may start with simply learning to say no.

What do you need to say no to today?
