Amplification

Amplification

We have been talking about gratitude, and how to accept gratitude. We don’t want to deflect it, get caught up in reciprocating it or discount it. We can say, “You are welcome!”. We can also take it a step further and amplify gratitude that is expressed toward us.

Amplification is a form of savoring. Here, you really want to bask in the feeling of being appreciated. You want to extend that feeling as long as you can. You can also let the other person know how it makes you feel (“That makes me feel good to hear you say you enjoyed my presentation”). So now we are in the gratitude dance. You have made a bid, and I have accepted it and kept the conversation going.

Have you experienced someone amplifying your gratitude? Have you amplified someone else’s gratitude? If not, try it today. Let me know in the comments.

We started this at my company. People can complete a Qualtrics form and send their gratitude directly to that person. We have to remind staff to use it, but when we go we see outpouring of support for each other.
