Addressing the world!
I've often thought that Post Codes in Australia in particular needed a drastic overhaul so that postcodes could be useful. what3words may well have the answer!
Some countries have very helpful postcode systems (take the UK for example where a post code will narrow down, often to a small group of houses).
Take this real life situation as an example... An international drilling supplies company decided to outsource the tendering of their transport and logistics services in Australia to a consultancy company operating in the Czech Republic. Most likely using a rationale that worked well in other countries the consultants sought transport prices from distribution hubs to a list of postcode locations. All of the nominated post codes covered huge areas and one of the post codes represented an area greater than that of the entire Czech Republic!
Addressing the world... what3words is a really simple way to talk about location. what3words have divided the world divided into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigned each square a unique 3 word address.
For example:
- We had some overseas visitors who wanted to know the location of a specific bus stop. The address ended up being dive.fresh.flat (click on link)
- A place popular with tourists is the tree top walk in nearby Kings Park rising.desire.regime and if while in Kings Park you decided to meet at one of the covered pergolas there then active.shorts.bend might be a good location. (Clear, absolute, no doubt and not open to mis-interpretation).
- Need to meet someone at your car in a large car park ...then how about this prefer.scarf.olive (switch to satellite view on the map).
So instead of a patchwork of systems that vary considerably in their adequacy what3words have a system that will work anywhere in the world.
