5 Cloud Computing Career Paths

Cloud computing is a rapidly growing field that involves the delivery of computing services, including servers, storage, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence, over the internet (the cloud). It enables organizations to access and use these resources on demand, rather than building and maintaining their own physical infrastructure.

There are many different types of careers in cloud computing, ranging from technical roles, such as cloud architects and cloud developers, to non-technical roles, such as cloud sales and marketing professionals. Some common job titles in cloud computing include:

  1. Cloud Architect: These professionals design, plan, and oversee the implementation of an organization's cloud computing strategy. They may work with a variety of cloud platforms and technologies, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Alternatively this role could be someone who is focused more on the vision and design, instead of implementation, these folks are called --> Cloud Solutions Architect: A cloud solutions architect is responsible for designing and implementing cloud computing solutions for organizations. They work with clients to understand their business needs and goals, and then design the appropriate cloud solutions to meet those needs.
  2. Cloud Developer: These professionals build and maintain cloud-based applications and services. They may work with a variety of programming languages and frameworks, such as Java, Python, and .NET.
  3. Cloud Operations Engineer (More popular known as the System Admin): These professionals are responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and management of an organization's cloud infrastructure. They may work with tools such as Chef, Puppet, or Ansible to automate and manage cloud resources.
  4. Cloud Sales and Marketing Professional (See also Cloud Solution Architect): These professionals help organizations understand the benefits of cloud computing and assist with the development and implementation of cloud-based solutions.
  5. Cloud Security Professional: These professionals are responsible for ensuring the security of an organization's cloud-based assets. They may work with a variety of security technologies and protocols, such as encryption, identity and access management, and network security.

To pursue a career in cloud computing, it is generally recommended to have a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as computer science or engineering, OR to gain experience with relevant technologies and tools through internships, projects, or certification programs.
