2025 - Will I be Relevant?
Christmas is over ! New year is here and it is time to jot down new objectives and tasks for 2021
Wait !! Did I just say tasks? I think this is one word that I have heard and used most number of times in past decade, of course after Agile. However, have never given much thought to what constitutes a task or what are the key elements of tasks which I performed till date, so thought of making a list and it was indeed a long one and goes as follows.
Set - 1
· Planning
· Identifying Dependencies
· Technical Skills (relevant)
· Decision Making
· Scheduling
· Configuration
· Reporting
· Communication
· Establishing patterns
· Recurrence
Set-2
· Compassion
· Negotiation
· Innovation
· Motivation
· Imagination
· Integrity
· Priority
· Abstraction
· Dilemma
· Morals
· Generalization, where possible
· Team working
· Common sense
When further deep-dived, I understood that the execution of tasks with features detailed in former required me to continuously reskill or upskill, while the later were driven by my values and principles that I have acquired from my parents, extended family and friends, and learnt by working in great organizations based on my interactions with various teammates be it a leader, teammate, stakeholder or a customer.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO HELPED IN BEING WHAT I AM TODAY
Sorry, I digressed.
Coming back to tasks, jotting down goals, objectives and tasks was quite an easy ‘task’ itself 😊 as I am clear on organizational direction and the actions needed to achieve them. However, what was not easy was a long term plan. Let’s say, in 2025, what would organization look for in me or to that matter, in anyone for hiring?
I am not referring to top roles that companies would require in 2025 as published by some of giant consulting companies but more to task attributes that I need to develop further to be relevant after 4 years.
SET – 1 OR Set- 2?
While I made my own list and created development plan, I will leave it there but my conclusion was that each one of us need to define what we want in 2025 and what we need to get what we want and start working on it.
With respect to organizations, I think they will have to redefine the current combination of task features to allow Set -1 features to be automated while Set - 2 remains abstract but intrinsic to set – 1 features laying the foundation.
Thoughts ?

Relevance all about staying in present Suman Bhatlapenumarthy, I have always believed that as long as you keep the foundations and fundamentals strong, the rest of the things are acquisitions, so keep things simple and go with the flow and adapt. That's what is required at every stage of life. Good Luck.
