🚀 Diving Deeper into JavaScript: Classes & Objects As part of my continuous learning journey in JavaScript, I recently explored one of the most important paradigms in modern development — Object-Oriented Programming (OOP). Day 15 of learning to code. Today I explored arrow functions in JavaScript, and honestly, they make things feel much simpler. Earlier, I used to write functions like this: function add(a, b) { return a + b; } Now with arrow functions, it becomes: const add = (a, b) => a + b; Same output, but the code feels shorter and cleaner. I also noticed that arrow functions are really useful when dealing with small tasks, especially while working with arrays. For example: const numbers = [1, 2, 3]; numbers.forEach(num => console.log(num)); It just feels more natural to read and write. One small but important realization today: Writing better code doesn’t mean writing more code. It means writing it in a simpler, clearer, and more efficient way. TypeScript Series Part 3: OOP – Enums, Classes, and Dynamic Methods! 🚀 As I dive deeper into my TypeScript journey, Part 3 has been all about building structured, scalable code using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles. Here’s a breakdown of what I covered today: 1. Enums (Enumerations) Enums allow us to define a set of named constants. Instead of using magic strings or numbers, Enums make the code readable and type-safe. Example: Defining user roles or application states. typescript enum UserRole { Admin = "ADMIN", Trainer = "TRAINER", Student = "STUDENT" } Use code with caution. 2. Classes & Constructors Classes are blueprints for objects. The Constructor is a special method that runs automatically when a new object is created, helping us initialize properties instantly. Example: typescript class Laptop { brand: string; constructor(brandName: string) { this.brand = brandName; } } const myLaptop = new Laptop("Dell"); Use code with caution. 3. Dynamic Methods Methods are functions defined inside a class. They become "dynamic" when they can take arguments to perform different actions based on the input, allowing the object to "do" something. Example: typescript class Calculator { multiply(a: number, b: number): number { return a * b; } } Use code with caution. Prototypes in JavaScript (The Secret Behind Everything) JavaScript doesn’t use classical inheritance like Java or C++ 👉 It uses Prototypal Inheritance --- 💡 Every object in JS has a hidden link: "[[Prototype]]" --- ⚡ Example: const animal = { speak() { console.log("Animal speaks"); } }; const dog = Object.create(animal); dog.speak(); // 🐶 Animal speaks --- 🤯 What just happened? - "dog" does NOT have "speak()" - JavaScript looks into its prototype - Finds it in "animal" 👉 This is called the Prototype Chain --- 🧩 Real Magic: [].map === Array.prototype.map // true 👉 That’s why arrays have methods like "map", "filter", etc. --- ⚠️ Important: dog.__proto__ === animal // true But avoid using "__proto__" directly Use "Object.getPrototypeOf()" --- 🚀 Why this matters: - Foundation of JS inheritance - Helps understand classes under the hood - Makes debugging easier --- Reference from 👉 Sheryians Coding School #javascript #webdevelopment #frontend #programming #coding
