async does not make a function asynchronous. An async function executes synchronously until it reaches - an await or - the function returns Only at that point does JavaScript introduce an asynchronous boundary. What actually happens when execution hits await (or an implicit return): - the function is paused - its continuation is scheduled as a microtask - control is returned to the event loop if there is no await, the function is not truly asynchronous, even if it has the async keyword. thus, - async ≠ asynchronous execution - await ≠ blocking JavaScript #javascript #react #promises #nextjs #webdeveloper #js #ts #reactjs
