PHP 🐘 JavaScript ⚡ Python 🐍 Java ☕ But after working in development, I realized something important… 👉 The real skill is 🧠 PROBLEM SOLVING. But when it comes to Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA), there is a constant tug-of-war: Should I stick with JS or switch to Java? 🧐 After diving deep into both, I’ve realized the choice isn’t just about "which is better"—it is about TRADE-OFFS. Here is the breakdown of the main factors every developer should consider: 🔹 THE MERN ADVANTAGE: WHY JAVASCRIPT? ✅ ZERO CONTEXT SWITCHING If you are building your frontend in React and backend in Node.js, staying in JS for DSA keeps your brain in one "syntax mode." Coming from languages like C/C++ or Java, JavaScript can feel a bit like magic. There’s no dedicated, pre-run compiler—everything happens on the fly! So, what actually happens under the hood when a simple JavaScript program runs? 1. The Translation Phase (From Code to Machine Language) Parsing: The engine's parser checks for syntax errors, breaks the code into tokens (keywords, Identifiers, operators, etc.), and builds a tree structure called the Abstract Syntax Tree (AST). Interpretation: The engine translates the AST into Bytecode (an intermediate language) and execution starts immediately using this Bytecode line-by-line. JIT Compilation: As the Bytecode runs, a "Profiler" watches the code. If it notices a specific function is being used over and over again(called "hot" code), it passes that specific bytecode to the JIT Compiler. 2. Where Does Everything Live? (Memory) While the program is loaded into RAM, memory is split into two main areas: The Heap: Stores complex reference types (Objects, Arrays, Functions) and program data. The Stack: Stores primitive values, memory references (addresses), and the Execution Contexts. 3. The Execution Phase (How it Runs) Whenever a JS program runs, a Global Execution Context (GEC) is pushed onto the Call Stack. JS engine is single-threaded, meaning it executes synchronously, line-by-line. The GEC creation happens in two distinct phases: 🧠Memory Creation Phase: The engine scans the code and allocates memory. Functions get their complete bodies stored. Variables declared with var are initialized as undefined, while let and const variables are placed in the Temporary Dead Zone (TDZ). 💻 Code Execution Phase: The engine executes the program top-to-bottom. Whenever a new function is invoked, a brand new Execution Context is created and pushed onto the Call Stack to handle it! 🚀 Java/C# Devs: Where did the "implements" keyword go? If you’re moving to Go (Golang) from a traditional OOP background, your first week might feel like moving into a house with no interior walls. You’ll instinctively look for class, search for extends, and wonder why implements is nowhere to be found. The truth? Go isn’t a traditional OOP language. It doesn’t do rigid hierarchies. It does pragmatism. In Go, we don't build deep inheritance trees; we compose behaviors. Here is how the "Big Three" of OOP translate into the Go world: 🏗️ Structs: The State (Not Classes) Think of a struct as a class without the baggage. It holds your data. To add behavior, you "attach" methods using a receiver. No hidden constructors, no complex initializers—just data and functions. 🤝 Interfaces: The Silent Contract This is where the magic happens. In Go, interfaces are satisfied implicitly. You don't tell the compiler a struct implements an interface; the compiler figures it out. If your struct has the required methods, it IS an implementation. No implements keyword required. 💡 The Mindset Shift Go trades Inheritance for Composition. Instead of saying an object is something, we focus on what an object can do.
