🚀 Day 2/30 – Skill Development Challenge Today marks the beginning of my 30-day skill development journey, and I started by learning the fundamentals of the Spring Framework, focusing on one of its core concepts - Dependency Injection (DI) 🌱 🔍 What I learned: Dependency Injection is a design principle used in Spring to achieve loose coupling by separating object creation from business logic. Instead of classes creating their own dependencies, the Spring container injects them, making applications easier to manage, extend, and test. 🔧 Types of Dependency Injection explored: Constructor Injection : Dependencies are injected through the constructor, ensuring mandatory dependencies are provided at object creation. This promotes immutability and leads to cleaner, more reliable code. By converting the backend into a Docker image: Spring Boot backend is fully containerized Consistent runtime environment across systems Faster and more reliable deployment Runs smoothly regardless of system configuration Eliminates environment & dependency issues Embedded Tomcat runs cleanly inside the container The Dockerized backend starts up flawlessly, exposing the application via HTTP and making it portable and production-ready. This hands-on experience strengthened my understanding of backend deployment, containerization, and real-world DevOps workflows using Docker. OOPs Taught Me How to Design Code — Git Taught Me How to Respect It While revising the Strategy Design Pattern today, I experienced a moment of real clarity. Concepts like loose coupling, achieved through runtime polymorphism, finally felt intuitive rather than theoretical. I wasn’t just revising OOPs — I was understanding why good software design survives change. This made me reflect on how deeply OOPs and Core Java fundamentals influence everything we build. OOPs teaches us how to: Design flexible and extensible systems Separate responsibilities using interfaces Avoid breaking existing functionality At the same time, Git reinforces these principles in practice. When you work with Git: Clean commits force you to think before changing code Poor design shows up quickly during merges Well-structured, loosely coupled code is easier to review, revert, and extend That’s when you realize — Good OOPs makes version control manageable, and Git exposes weak design instantly. This revision reminded me of a simple truth: Strong basics are invisible, but their impact is undeniable. Starting the year with such clarity feels motivating and grounding. Grateful for consistent learning, disciplined revision, and the fundamentals that keep compounding. Recently, I hit a snag during a sprint where a new feature in my Spring Boot application ran perfectly on my machine but crashed in staging. It turned out to be a dependency version mismatch. That's when I doubled down on using Docker locally, ensuring our code runs consistently across environments before hitting Kubernetes. Here is what helped: I start every project by creating a Dockerfile for my Node.js or Java services, defining the environment exactly like production. Then, I spin up containers with Docker Compose for local testing, mock third-party services, and run integration tests against real databases like PostgreSQL or Elasticsearch. This workflow catches 90% of issues early. For example, I build an image with maven clean package, run docker run -p 8080:8080 myapp, and test endpoints with curl or Postman before pushing to a registry for K8s deployment. Bridging local Docker setups with Kubernetes deployments has taught me that parity is key to avoiding production headaches. It's all about ownership and minimizing rework, which keeps teams focused on delivering value. 🔴 Build Failed. 🔴 Build Failed. 🟢 SUCCESS They say CI/CD is about automation, but the real skill is in debugging. 🛠️ I spent the last few hours battling a Jenkins pipeline that refused to cooperate. It wasn't just a simple syntax error, it was a full-stack debugging session. Here is what tried to stop me: Python/Django Incompatibility: My Docker container pulled Python 3.14, which broke my Django 3.2 app (RIP distutils). Fix: Pinned the Dockerfile to Python 3.10. Access Denied: Docker Hub rejected my push requests. Fix: Configured secure credentials in Jenkins and updated the pipeline logic. Git & Manifest Issues: Jenkins couldn't authenticate with GitHub to update my Kubernetes manifests. Fix: Generated Personal Access Tokens (PATs) and automated the git commit/push inside the pipeline. Groovy Syntax Nightmares: Learned the hard way that ${variables} don't work inside single quotes! It was frustrating, but seeing that final "Finished: SUCCESS" and watching my Docker image update automatically on Docker Hub made it all worth it. ⚡ The Lightweight Image That Gave My Friend a Heavy Headache 😓💀 Yesterday, one of my friends in DevOps had a very rough day. He spent 6+ hours debugging a deployment that just kept crashing… and crashing… and crashing 😩. He checked everything: ✔️ YAML ✔️ Dockerfile ✔️ CI/CD ✔️ Logs ✔️ Env variables But still no luck 😔. Even Kubernetes was like: “Bro, not today.” 😭 At around 2:47 AM, he texted me: “Bhai, I’m done… this issue is eating my brain.” 😢 I told him, “Sleep first. War tomorrow.” Next morning, with a calmer mind, he found the real reason 👇 ⚠️ His Dockerfile had: FROM node:16-alpine And here’s the sad twist 😞… 🔥 Alpine doesn’t include npm by default. 😳 So npm install kept failing → build broke → pods kept dying 💔.
