🚨 Most developers use React. Very few actually understand it. And the difference? 👉 Components. If you truly understand Components, you understand React. Everything in React revolves around this one idea 👇 🔹 What are Components? Components are reusable building blocks of a React application. Instead of writing one large HTML file, React allows you to break your UI into small, independent pieces. Each component: ✅ Has its own logic ✅ Can manage its own state ✅ Returns UI elements ✅ Can be reused anywhere There are two types: • Functional Components (modern & widely used) • Class Components (older approach) Today, most real-world projects use Functional Components with Hooks. 💡 Why Components Matter? Imagine building a large application without components. Messy. Hard to maintain. Difficult to scale. With components: ⚡ Code becomes organized ⚡ Reusability increases ⚡ Maintenance becomes easy ⚡ Team collaboration improves 🏢 Real-Time Example In a Marketplace Application, I created separate components for: • Navbar • Sidebar • ProductList • ProductCard • Footer Each was independent. Later, when UI changes were required, I updated only specific components — not the entire application. I thought moving from React to Next.js would feel like a simple upgrade. It didn’t. It felt like moving from building interfaces… to understanding how real production applications are structured. With React, I became comfortable thinking in components: state, props, reusable UI, event handling, and building smooth user interactions. But Next.js introduced a different level of discipline. Suddenly, small decisions started carrying more weight: - Should this stay server-side or client-side? - Does this belong in a layout or a page? - When should data be fetched? - How should routing scale when the project grows? At first, some of these ideas looked simple until they had to work inside a real project. That was where the real learning happened. The biggest difference for me was realizing that Next.js doesn’t just help you write code faster — it pushes you to think more like an engineer building for production. Features like: - file-based routing - nested layouts - server components - API routes - image optimization - improved performance by default …all started making sense once I stopped treating them as “features” and started seeing them as architecture decisions. What surprised me most: the upgrade changed how I plan before coding. Now I think more about scalability, maintainability, and performance before writing the first component. React taught me how to build. Next.js is teaching me how to build with long-term structure. Still learning. Still improving. But every project now feels more intentional. Unpopular Opinion: Junior Developers Should NOT Start With React This might sound controversial, but I see it often. Many beginners jump directly into frameworks like React or Next.js without understanding the problems those tools solve. Before React, you should understand: • How the DOM works • Event handling in JavaScript • State and data flow in vanilla JavaScript • Basic rendering logic Before using a framework, ask: Why was this framework created in the first place? React exists to solve problems like: Complex UI state management Efficient DOM updates (Virtual DOM & reconciliation) Component-based architecture Similarly, understanding concepts like Server-Side Rendering (SSR) makes frameworks like Next.js much easier to appreciate. The Same Applies to Styling Before using utility frameworks like Tailwind CSS, you should understand: Flexbox Grid Positioning The CSS box model Otherwise you end up copying classes without understanding layout behavior. The Real Point Frameworks are powerful. But they make far more sense when you understand the problems they were designed to solve. Strong fundamentals make learning any framework faster. 🚀 var vs useState in React – A Common Confusion for Beginners Many new React developers ask this question: “When we can store values in var, why do we need useState?” Let’s break it down 👇 🔹 Using a normal variable (var, let, const) A normal variable can store values and you can change them anytime. Example: let count = 0; const increment = () => {  count = count + 1; } The value changes, React will NOT update the UI. Why? Because React doesn’t know that the value has changed. 🔹 Using UseState useState is designed to manage state inside React components. const [count, setCount] = useState(0); const increment = () => {  setCount(prev => prev + 1); } When setCount runs: 1️⃣ React knows the state changed 2️⃣ The component re-renders 3️⃣ The UI updates automatically Role in React If a value affects the UI, it should be stored in state (useState), not in a normal variable. 💡 Small React/Next.js Tip I Learned Today While working on a Next.js project, I needed to create a reusable configCreator utility. Example: const configCreator = () => ({ id: "id", label: "Option 1", icon: <Info size={12} /> }); Since I wanted to store it inside a utility file and reuse it across multiple places, I ran into an interesting problem. Because I was using a JSX component (<Info />) inside the util file, I had to change the file extension from .ts → .tsx. The issue was that this file already contained many other utility functions, so just to add one function using JSX, the whole file needed to become .tsx. The Better Approach I Found Instead of JSX, I used React.createElement. const configCreator = () => ({ id: "id", label: "Option 1", icon: React.createElement(Info, { size: 12 }) }); This allowed me to keep the file as .ts, since React.createElement doesn't require JSX. Why This Is Useful ✔ Keeps utility files clean and framework-agnostic ✔ Avoids unnecessary .tsx conversions ✔ Makes configs easier to reuse across the codebase Curious to hear from other React developers 👇 How would you tackle this in your React codebase?
