Just watched Next.js Conf 2025, and I’m genuinely excited about what’s coming with Next.js 16! Here are the key highlights that stood out to me 👇 1. Turbopack (default)  Now the default for both dev and build — lightning-fast Rust-powered bundling that makes development and production builds feel instant ⚡ 2. Cache Components (opt-in)  Previously known as Partial Prerendering (PPR) — combines the speed of SSG with the freshness of SSR. Truly the best of both worlds and new "use cache" directive, which can be used to cache pages, components, and functions. Now caching in Next.js is both more explicit, and more flexible. 3. 🚀 Next.js 16: What really matters I just reviewed the Next.js 16 release, and something caught my attention: it's not just about speed, it's about developer experience at scale. Here's what's relevant: ⚡ Turbopack is stable (finally) Up to 76.7% faster local server startup and 96.3% faster code updates with Fast Refresh. After years in beta, it's now the default for next dev. 🔄 Async Request APIs cookies(), headers(), params, and searchParams are now async. Yes, it's a breaking change. But it enables better caching and predictable data access patterns. 🎨 React 19 support Enhanced <Form> actions, the use() hook, and improved hydration errors. The foundation is stronger. 📦 next/after for post-response tasks Finally, a clean way to run analytics, logging, or cleanup without blocking the response. No more hacky workarounds. 💡 But here's the key... The migration path is clear: npx @next/codemod@canary upgrade latest. But codemods won't solve architectural decisions. The real question isn't "should I upgrade?". It's "does my team understand the shift to async-first patterns?". Next.js 16 isn't just a version bump.
