💻 Understanding IoC (Inversion of Control) in Spring Framework As I continue learning the Spring Framework, I explored an important concept called IoC (Inversion of Control). In traditional Java applications, we create and manage objects manually using the new keyword. But in Spring, this control is transferred to the Spring Container. This is called Inversion of Control. In simple terms: Instead of creating objects ourselves, Spring creates and manages them for us. Why is this useful? ✔ Reduces tight coupling between classes ✔ Makes code more flexible and maintainable ✔ Improves testability ✔ Helps in building scalable applications IoC is the foundation of Spring and is closely related to Dependency Injection, which I explored earlier. Understanding IoC helped me see how Spring manages the entire application in a more efficient way. Java 26...... One of the core assumptions many of us have relied on in Java is simple: If a field is declared final, it should not change. However, in practice, reflection allowed this contract to be bypassed, creating subtle risks around correctness, maintainability, and performance. JEP 500 clearly suggests – “Prepare to Make Final Mean Final”, OpenJDK is taking a significant step toward reinforcing this guarantee with it's new release JDK 26. This change is not just a technical update—it’s about restoring trust in one of the language’s foundational principles. 🔹 Reflective mutation of final fields has historically been possible 🔹 This has limited JVM optimizations and weakened immutability guarantees 🔹 Moving forward, Java is aligning behavior with developer expectations Starting with JDK 26: - Reflective updates to final fields will trigger warnings - Future releases are expected to restrict this behavior by default - Explicit opt-in will be required for edge use cases Why this matters for us as developers: - Stronger guarantees around immutability - Improved code predictability and maintainability - Better opportunities for JVM-level optimizations - More robust and safer concurrent systems In many ways, this change reflects a broader direction in Java, focusing not just on adding features, but on strengthening the reliability of what already exists. As part of JDK26, the JEP500 makes the final fields (specifically instance final fields) of the class effectively immutable, meaning any mutations via deep reflection API embodied in the setAccessible and set methods of the java.lang.reflect.Field class will now issues a warning. WARNING: Final field f in p.C has been [mutated/unreflected for mutation] by class com.foo.Bar.caller in module N (file:/path/to/foo.jar) WARNING: Use --enable-final-field-mutation=N to avoid a warning WARNING: Mutating final fields will be blocked in a future release unless final field mutation is enabled But why? 1. Provide Integrity by Default 2. Enable JIT Constant folding optimizations Historically the JDK releases are preparing for restrictions of deep reflection via, 1. introduced hidden classes in JDK 15 and record classes in JDK 16. 2. strongly encapsulated JDK internals in JDK 17. 3. JDK 24, started the process to remove methods in sun.misc.Unsafe that, like deep reflection, allow the mutation of final fields. How to identify? When JFR is enabled, the JVM records a jdk.FinalFieldMutation event whenever code mutates a final instance field or uses Lookup.unreflectSetter to get a MethodHandle with write access to a reflected final field. And, 1. Serialization libraries should use sun.reflect.ReflectionFactory 2. Libraries should not use deep reflection to mutate final fields 3. This talk is abundant in information detailing those that are necessary to be mindful of when migrating from JDK8 all the way to JDK25 (or also 11, 17 per se for any combinations that apply), by leveraging diagnostic tools such as 1. Static code analysis on compiled code - `jdeps --jdk-internals` -> catches reflections, removed JavaEE packages, Unsafe usage and native access `jdeprscan --for-removal` ->securityManager usages, finalize() overrides, JavaEE references `jnativescan` -> JNI calls, FFM API Usages `javap` -> Disassembles Class files for file version mismatches, etc, between JDK versions `japicmp ` -> Compares different JARs for Binary vs Source incompatibilities in dependency upgrades 2. Runtime code analysis via JVM CLI flags - `-XX:+PrintFlagsFinal` -> GC flags, obsolete flags are identified per JDK `-Xlog:exceptions=info` -> Logs every exception the JVM creates and helps identify the frameworks' reflection failures, missing classes, and ASM version mismatches JFR + jcmd -> catches GC performances, thread contentions, etc. Furthermore, it discusses more about the JEPs per JDK and their impact with respect to compile-time (obvious) and runtime behaviour of the Java application on migration https://lnkd.in/gtYs2c94
