🚀 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆’𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝘃𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 While working with Terraform, I explored a concept that 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴 👇 🔹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 (𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰) Terraform is smart enough to understand relationships 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁. 👉 When one resource references another, Terraform automatically builds the dependency graph. 📌 Example:  • Virtual Network depends on Resource Group  • Terraform detects it via reference → creates 𝗥𝗚 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 → 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗩𝗡𝗲𝘁 💡 Clean, simple, and best for most use cases. 🔸 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 (𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹) Sometimes Terraform 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀, and that’s where we step in. 👉 Using 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀_𝗼𝗻, we manually define the order. 📌 Example:  • Storage Account depends on Resource Group  • You force order → 𝗥𝗚 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 → 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 💡 Useful when:  • Dependencies are not obvious  • You want strict control over execution order 🎯 𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 👉 Always prefer 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 for cleaner and maintainable code 👉 Use 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 only when necessary to avoid hidden issues 💬 𝘛𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘸. 🔥 If you're working with Terraform, this small concept can save you from big deployment issues. learning with DevOps Insiders Aman Gupta Ashish Kumar #Terraform #DevOps #CloudComputing #Azure #InfrastructureAsCode #LearningInPublic #TechGrowth

Instance type, region, environment name, tags… everything fixed ❌ This works for small projects, but in real-world production environments, it creates serious problems. That’s where Terraform Variables become a game changer. What are Variables in Terraform? Variables allow you to make your Terraform code: ✔ Dynamic ✔ Reusable ✔ Scalable ✔ Environment-friendly Instead of writing fixed values, you define inputs once and use them anywhere in your infrastructure code. Simple example: Instead of this 👇 region = "us-east-1" Use this 👇 region = var.region Now your code becomes flexible and production-ready. Welcome to the world of 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 😄 👨💻 Scene: Mintu starts 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 → state gets locked 🔒 Chintu also starts 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 → BLOCKED 🚫 Now Chintu is staring at the screen like: “Bhai… mera infra kab banega?” Meanwhile Mintu: 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 “Manual Approval” (manager still offline 💀) Goes for chai ☕ Comes back after 5 hours State still locked. 💡 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸: Terraform locking is NOT your enemy. It’s the only thing preventing your infra from turning into 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 😅 Without locking = ❌ Race conditions ❌ Corrupt state ❌ Resources created twice ❌ Or worse… deleted 🚨 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸? Now comes the DevOps Avengers move 🦸♂️ 👉 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 1: Break lease from backend (Azure Blob Storage) 👉 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 2: terraform force-unlock Yes… you can break the lock But remember: With great power comes great responsibility 🎯 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲: Never force unlock unless you're 100% sure: No one else is running apply That lock is actually stale Otherwise… 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘀 🎉 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘀 💬 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: Terraform is not slow.
