React is fast by default. But are YOU using it fast? Most React apps don't have a performance problem. They have a developer habit problem. Here are the advanced optimizations that separate senior devs from the rest: 1- Stop Abusing useEffect. Not everything belongs in a useEffect. Derived state? Compute it inline. Event-driven logic? Use handlers. useEffect is for synchronization, not control flow. 2- useMemo and useCallback. But only where it hurts. Wrapping everything in useMemo is not optimization, it's anxiety. Profile first. Memoize only when: A child component is wrapped in React.memo The value feeds a heavy computation It's a dependency in another hook 3- Code Splitting is Non-Negotiable Every route you don't lazy-load is bundle weight your user pays for. constDashboard=React.lazy(()=>import('./Dashboard')) Pair with <Suspense> and ship leaner initial loads. 4- Virtualize Long Lists Rendering 1,000 DOM nodes to show 10? That's a you problem. react-window or @tanstack/virtual renders only what's visible. Your scroll performance will thank you. 5- Avoid Anonymous Functions in JSX // ❌ New function reference on every render <Button onClick={()=>handleClick(id)}/> // ✅ Stable referenceconst handleItemClick =useCallback(()=>handleClick(id),[id]) React doesn't slow down. Working with state management is such a trip when you switch between Flutter and React. In Flutter, state is all about the UI—like, when I update a button’s state, the UI responds. But in React, it’s a whole other vibe—state is often about data—think Redux Toolkit. Honestly, sometimes I struggle with what to store in Redux—like, when does it make sense to pull in global state? If you’re using shared data across components, definitely Redux. But for simple local stuff, React’s useState or Context might just do the trick. 🧠 Part 3 of 10: Duplicated state is one of the fastest ways to make a React app feel unstable. Everything looks fine at first. Then one value updates. The other one doesn’t. Now the UI technically works, but nobody fully trusts it. That’s the part people don’t say enough: a lot of frontend bugs are really trust issues. The UI says one thing. The data says another. Now the team starts building around confusion. Whenever I can, I try to keep state close to a single source of truth. It makes code easier to reason about. And future changes get a lot less annoying. Your React app is slow. Here's why. 🐢 Most devs jump straight to optimization tools. But 90% of the time, the fix is simpler: 🔴 Fetching data in every component independently → Lift it up or use a global state solution 🔴 Importing entire libraries for one function → `import _ from 'lodash'` hurts. Use named imports. 🔴 No lazy loading on heavy routes → React.lazy() exists. Use it. 🔴 Images with no defined size → Layout shifts kill perceived performance 🔴 Everything in one giant component → Split it. React re-renders what changed, not what didn't. 🚀 Why is React so fast? One big reason is the Reconciliation Algorithm in React. Whenever state or props change, React doesn’t blindly update the entire UI. Instead, it follows a smart approach: 1️⃣ Creates a new Virtual DOM 2️⃣ Compares it with the previous Virtual DOM 3️⃣ Detects only the changes 4️⃣ Updates only those parts in the real DOM 💡 Example: Old UI → A, B New UI → A, B, C React will only add C, not re-render everything. ⚡ Key Idea: React updates only what changed, making apps faster and more efficient. 🎯 Interview Tip: Reconciliation = Comparing old vs new Virtual DOM and updating minimal changes. 💬 Question for Developers: Did you know about this concept before?
