AI has lowered the barrier to entry even further. But you still need to understand the fundamentals — how to think about development and debugging, how to use the right tools. We're often told to "show your work." Why do we stop in our code? Remember in math class, where the right answer wasn't enough? You had to prove how you got it. I had a realization: I was building complex projects, but I wasn't "showing my work." I couldn't definitively prove that every single piece was correct. This is what made me learn Pytest. I wasn't just learning a new library. I was learning the discipline of unit testing. The importance is massive. In software engineering, it means you can refactor code with confidence. In ML, it's even more critical. It’s how you verify that your data pipeline isn’t silently corrupting your inputs or that your model's logic holds true. The big life lesson? Assumptions are cheap, but proof is priceless. Learning to write tests has fundamentally changed my workflow. It’s a commitment to building things that are not just clever, but correct. But I wanted something more tailored to my workflow. My goal was to create an optimization where, for every coding task I give to an AI assistant, it would first search through a collection of my own code and project patterns before generating suggestions. Instead of generic completions, I wanted context-aware suggestions that align with my codebase's conventions and existing solutions. People often ask me how to get started with vibe coding. If you’re not technical, my best advice might sound counterintuitive: learn to code. Even a beginner Python class (there are numerous free options online) will give you invaluable context that makes you a better vibe coder. Try to actually build a few things: automate a task, call an API, hit an error, and debug it. You don’t need to become a software engineer. But learning to think like one, to break problems down, reason through errors, and understand how systems fit together will make you vastly better at prompting, designing, and iterating with AI tools.

Stop trying to memorize code. Start trying to understand it. When I first started coding, I thought mastery meant memorizing everything. Every syntax. Every function. Every little detail. So I’d spend hours staring at tutorials, trying to cram code into my head, line by line, hoping it would stick. But the truth? It didn’t. The moment I opened my notebook or editor, my mind off🥲 Then one day, it clicked. The real goal isn’t to remember the code. It’s to understand what the code is doing and why it works that way. Once I shifted my focus from memorizing to understanding, everything changed. I stopped seeing code as random lines and started seeing it as logic, flow, and purpose. And guess what? The more I understood the why, the easier the how became. So if you’re just starting out, don’t pressure yourself to know every syntax or library by heart. Instead, ask questions like: 👉 “What is this function trying to achieve?” 👉 “Why is this logic necessary here?” Understanding first makes memorizing natural not forced Your code doesn’t have to be perfect. Your journey doesn’t have to be fast. Just make sure every line you write makes sense to you.
