AI writes Python code... backwards. I noticed something that kept bugging me: AI coding assistants like Claude Code most often generate Python functions in bottom-up order, with helpers first and entry points last. What's the deal? This forces you to read code from the bottom up to understand what it does. The exact opposite of how we naturally read, from the headline to the supporting details, like a newspaper! So I built 🔧 flake8-stepdown, a tool that detects and auto-fixes function ordering violations. It works as a flake8 plugin and as a standalone CLI. Continuing my journey learning Python for AI/ML, I built a web scraper that collects quotes and author details from a website. GitHub Repo - https://lnkd.in/gej-ZwFG What the scraper does: • Scrapes quotes from multiple pages • Extracts tags associated with each quote • Visits author pages to collect birth date and location • Uses caching to avoid repeated requests for the same author • Saves everything into a structured JSON dataset While building this I practiced concepts like: pagination scraping, nested HTML parsing, multi-page data extraction and optimizing requests. 🚀 Day 6/111 — Diving Deeper into python Continuing my journey into AI/ML, today I explored some powerful concepts python honestly, I haven't heard this before. 🔍 What I learned today: ✔️ **𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞? ✔️ **𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 ->Counters A counter is a sub-class of the dictionary. It is used to keep the count of the elements in an iterable in the form of an unordered dictionary where the key represents element in the iterable and value represents the count of that element in the iterable. ->OrderedDict An OrderedDict is a dictionary that preserves the order in which keys are inserted. While regular dictionaries do this from Python 3.7+, OrderedDict also offers extra features like moving re-inserted keys to the end making it useful for order-sensitive operations. DefaultDict A DefaultDict is also a sub-class to dictionary. It is used to provide some default values for the key that does not exist and never raises a KeyError. ChainMap A ChainMap encapsulates many dictionaries into a single unit and returns a list of dictionaries. NamedTuple A NamedTuple is like a regular tuple but with named fields, making data more readable and accessible. Instead of using indexes, you can access elements by name (e.g., student.fname), which improves code clarity and ease of use. Deque Deque (Doubly Ended Queue) is the optimized list for quicker append and pop operations from both sides of the container. It provides O(1) time complexity for append and pop operations as compared to list with O(n) time complexity. It’s fascinating to see there is always something to learn. Here’s a simple mindset shift that working for me Instead of going bottom-up (learning everything in depth first), try a Top-Down approach: - Start with a small MVP project - Use basic Python + a few key libraries - Don’t aim for perfection — aim to build something Then iterate: Learn NumPy & Pandas while handling data. Use Matplotlib / Seaborn for quick insights Apply scikit-learn for basic ML models Gradually understand what’s happening under the hood 💡 The trick is selective learning — You don’t need to master everything before starting. Build → Break → Learn → Improve → Repeat Over time, you’ll realize: What once looked complex becomes your foundation. I keep wondering… why is almost every AI tool built on Python? It doesn’t really make sense at first. C++ is faster Rust is safer Java is built for scale So why did Python win? The answer is surprisingly simple. Because AI isn’t just an engineering problem. It’s an experimentation problem. When you’re building models, you’re not optimizing code first. You’re trying ideas. Breaking things. Testing again. Iterating constantly. Python just makes that easy. Less boilerplate Faster to write Easier to read A massive ecosystem ready to plug into And here’s the part most people miss. When you run an AI model, Python isn’t doing the heavy lifting. Underneath, it’s all highly optimized C++, CUDA, and hardware acceleration. Python is just the glue that holds everything together. So in a way, Python didn’t win because it’s the fastest. It won because it gets out of your way. And maybe that’s the bigger lesson beyond AI. Sometimes the best technology isn’t the most powerful one. It’s the one that lets more people build, faster. I have been reading through Prof. Dr. Ethem Alpaydın's research papers and kept hitting the same wall: great algorithms, hundreds of citations, no usable Python implementation anywhere. Soft Decision Trees, Hierarchical Mixture of Experts, the Combined 5×2cv F Test all sitting in papers but nowhere to pip install. So I built neural-trees.sklearn-compatible, PyTorch-based, fully tested. The 5×2cv F Test alone is worth it if you have ever needed to properly compare two classifiers the standard paired t-test is statistically unreliable for this. pip install neural-trees I also built ML Playground a browser-based visualizer where you can pick any algorithm, tune hyperparameters, and watch the decision boundary update live. No install, just open and run.
