🚀 GitHub changed how I build. Earlier, I used to think of coding as just writing logic. Now I see it as building systems that evolve over time. GitHub is not just a code repository. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹. Every commit = a decision Every branch = an experiment Every pull request = structured thinking Over time, I’ve built a simple workflow: 👉 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹 → 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 → 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 → 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 → 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵 → 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 Nothing fancy. Just consistent. And honestly, that consistency matters more than tools. Recently, I’ve been exploring AI-assisted development inside GitHub workflows. Using tools like: 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘅-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 What I’ve realized: AI doesn’t replace GitHub. It makes GitHub more 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹. Because now: You don’t just write code 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼-𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 For my current project (local AI content studio), GitHub is where everything comes together: 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘱𝘱 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘵𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 All tracked. All versioned. All evolving. 💡 𝗠𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: You don’t need complex setups. Start simple: learn basic git commands commit regularly use branches without fear experiment with AI tools That’s enough to level up. GitHub is not just where code lives. 🚀 I started learning GitHub — and honestly, I didn't expect Day 1 to teach me this much. Here's what I picked up as a complete beginner: 🔀 Git Basics & Branching A branch is just a parallel version of your project. You create one, make changes, and merge it back. Simple but powerful. ✅ Pull Requests (PRs) PRs are how teams review and merge code in the real world. I created one, got it merged, and deleted the branch. That loop? It just clicked. ⚠️ Merge Conflicts When 2 developers edit the same file conflicts happen. You resolve them manually, one branch at a time. Lesson learned before it happened to me. 📝 Markdown Turns out .md files power most of GitHub. Headers, images, lists, code blocks all from plain text. Even learned about Gist for sharing code snippets. 🤖 GitHub Copilot AI that writes code alongside you inline suggestions, chat, comments-to-code. The free tier alone is wild: 2000 completions/month. 📊 Story Point Estimations Always estimate in Fibonacci: 0, 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 8, 13. It's about complexity not just time. The API Community was at GitHub 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐮 🙌 And this wasn’t just another event for us it was a reminder of what strong developer ecosystems truly look like when 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐑𝐞𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐬 come together under one roof. We had some amazing conversations with familiar faces from the 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 and also met many incredible people we’ve only interacted with online 🤝 (Khushi Trivedi Yashraj Nayak Nimit Savant Aditya Oberai Akshat Nema Vedant Kakde Sneha Biradar Dhruv Agrawal Md Zeeshan Jawed Kartikey Garg Ganesh Patil). I've been experimenting with GitHub Copilot in a way that I think most developers haven't tried yet — and I wanted to share the workflow I've landed on. Start in the Repository. When you're building something new, go straight to your GitHub repository and describe what you want Copilot to build. From a completely empty repo. No existing code, no setup, nothing. Just tell it what you want and let it go to work. I did exactly that — brand new repository, described my app, and walked away. It scaffolded the entire thing and opened a PR for my review. Then use Issues to refine. Once you have a foundation in place, that's when GitHub Issues becomes powerful. Open an issue, type @copilot, and describe what you want changed, added, or fixed. It reads your existing code and makes targeted changes in context. So the mental model I'd suggest: New project? Start in the repository and let Copilot build the foundation Existing project? Use Issues to extend, refine, or correct Think of it like handing an architect an empty lot versus asking a contractor to renovate what's already there. Two different jobs, two different starting points. Most people are still using Copilot just for autocomplete. Here’s what I’ve been able to understand so far: * What GitHub is – a platform where developers store their code, track changes, and collaborate on projects * How to get started – creating an account, setting up a repository, and uploading files * How it operates – understanding basic concepts like repositories, commits, and version control * Deployment – learning how to publish a project so it can be accessed online What stood out to me is that GitHub is more than just saving code—it’s about building a portfolio and making your work visible. It wasn’t completely easy at first, but taking time to understand each step made a big difference. I’m still learning and improving, but I’m excited about how far I’ve come.
