Most React developers have written this at some point: ```js useEffect(() => { fetchUserData(userId); }, []); ``` It works — until it doesn't. The problem? You're telling React "run this once" but your effect actually depends on userId. When userId changes, your UI goes stale and you get bugs that are incredibly hard to trace. The fix is simple: ```js useEffect(() => { fetchUserData(userId); }, [userId]); ``` Always ask yourself: "What values does this effect read from the component scope?" Every one of them belongs in the dependency array. ESLint's exhaustive-deps rule will catch these automatically. If you're not using it, turn it on today. Most React developers know both hooks. But a lot of people still use the wrong one in real projects. useCallback and useMemo look similar… but they solve different problems. Today I revisited an important concept in React.js — the Component Lifecycle. Understanding the lifecycle of a component is essential for writing efficient and maintainable React applications. Every React component goes through a series of phases during its lifetime. Key Lifecycle Phases: • Mounting – When the component is created and inserted into the DOM. • Updating – When the component re-renders due to changes in state or props. • Unmounting – When the component is removed from the DOM. In traditional Class Components, lifecycle methods such as componentDidMount, componentDidUpdate, and componentWillUnmount were used to manage these phases. With Functional Components and React Hooks, particularly useEffect(), managing lifecycle-related logic has become simpler and more readable. Don't they do the exact same thing?" 🤔 It’s a completely normal question, and it's easy to assume they are redundant. But here is the reality check: they don't actually contain the same information. While package.json holds your custom commands (like npm run dev), your lock file strictly handles exact dependency trees. 🌲 They are a dynamic duo, not duplicates. Here is the straightforward breakdown of why your project needs both to survive the modern web matrix: 📄 The Blueprint: package.json 👨💻 Human-Readable: This is your app's manifest. You write, edit, and maintain this file. 🌊 Flexible Versions: It lists your top-level dependencies using version ranges (e.g., "react": "^18.2.0"). The caret (^) means "give me version 18.2.0 or any newer minor update that doesn't break things." 🎛️ Project Control Center: It holds your project metadata, author details, and your custom execution scripts. 🔒 The Snapshot: package-lock.json 🤖 Machine-Generated: You should never manually edit this file. Node Package Manager (npm) creates and updates it automatically. 🎯 Exact Versions: It completely ignores flexible ranges. It records the exact version of every single dependency installed, plus the dependencies of those dependencies (the entire tree). 🛡️ Guaranteed Consistency: It is the cure for the "it works on my machine" excuse. It ensures that when a teammate clones the repo, or when your code goes to a production server, the exact same underlying code is installed every single time. 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁. Today's class changed how I think about both. Started with the brute force way. One state per input field. Works fine. Also bloats fast and scales terribly. Then the optimized approach. Less code, single state object, same result. But the thing that actually stuck with me was the event system difference nobody talks about early on: • Native DOM events use event bubbling by default. Events travel up the tree • React's synthetic events use event delegation by default. One listener at the root handles everything Same outcome on the surface. Very different under the hood. React isn't just a UI library. It's quietly making performance decisions for you before you even think about them. Understanding why React does what it does makes you a better React developer. Every time a user typed a letter, the application was making an API request immediately. That means if someone typed “React”, the API was called *5 times*. This is where *debouncing* becomes very useful. 💡 Debouncing delays the function execution until the user *stops typing for a short time*.
