I built a straightforward, interactive webpage to solidify my understanding of vanilla JavaScript and DOM manipulation. - Dynamic Styling: Created a button that triggers a color change upon interaction using JavaScript event listeners. - Time-Based Logic: Programmed a dynamic greeting alert that checks the current time (new Date().getHours()) and delivers a context-aware message (Morning, Afternoon, or Evening). - Interactive Calculator: Built a simple calculator that takes values from user input fields, parses the data, performs the addition, and instantly updates the DOM with the correct result. Web Development Project: Country Explorer Just completed my first API fetch project — a Country Explorer app built with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The CSS: Built a full :root variable system for colors, spacing, and typography so nothing is hardcoded twice. Dark theme with DM Sans, CSS Grid for the details card, and a single media query handling full responsiveness at 705px. The JavaScript: Split into three clear functions — one grabs the value and triggers the fetch, one handles the API call, one updates the DOM. Kept the event listener clean by having it only coordinate, not do the actual work. Biggest learning moment: Passing a nested object directly to textContent gives you [object Object] on screen. The fix is console.logging the full API response first and reading the structure before writing a single line of display logic. Object.values() handles dynamic keys like currencies and languages where dot notation fails. Edge cases handled: - Empty input check - API error handling with response.ok - Result card hidden on page load - Enter key support without duplicating logic - Browser autofill dark theme fix with -webkit-box-shadow inset Tip for anyone building something similar: always read your API response in the console before touching the DOM. Small but powerful knowledge A few days ago, I learned the `getBoundingClientRect()` method in JavaScript, which really intrigued me. At the time, I didn’t fully comprehend what this function does; however, after some testing, I understood its importance when developing web applications that require UI positioning. Here is an example I have tested: ```js const tab = document.querySelector('.tab'); const rect = tab.getBoundingClientRect(); console.log(rect); ``` It will return: * `width` * `height` * `top` * `left` It is basically giving the information about **the position on the screen and dimensions of the HTML element**.
