So I traced how Claude does data analysis… and it caps insights at ~50 numbers. Yesterday, Claude analyzed my core KPIs trends. Then I asked what exactly it did: → Read skills, memories, DBT models to understand the metrics ✅ → Wrote SQL to pull aggregated KPIs from BigQuery ✅ → Built a summary table ✅ → Did "mental math" to find trends 🤔 That last step is the problem. Benchmarks show that LLM mental math is reliable up to about 50 data points. My Claude aggregates everything down to ~50 numbers before reasoning. But at that resolution (50 numbers = ~7x7 table), insights are lost. Add latitude and longitude (delivery zones, station networks, routes) and mental math fails. TLDR Without “seeing the picture”, Claude insight extraction is limited to a small table of numbers.
 Enough for simple KPIs, useless for geospatial. FIX: So let Claude see the picture! 🧠 The paper "Charts-of-Thought" (2025) shows that LLMs can extract insights from charts quite well. And charts encode much more data than 50 numbers. I'm building a SKILL for Claude to visualize and reason about geospatial data.
