Frontend goes beyond UI to complex engineering

I’m thrilled to share an independent open-source project I’ve been building from the ground up: oks-ui, a brand new React component library designed with strict API conventions and accessibility at its core. As a frontend developer, I wanted to architect a UI library from scratch that provides a highly predictable and clean developer experience from day one. Key features of oks-ui: 🔹 Strict API Design: Built with TypeScript. Predictable props across the board and seamless extensibility (e.g., semantic strings like color="secondary" work automatically). 🔹 Modern Styling: Component styles are isolated using CSS Modules. The design system runs entirely on namespaced CSS variables (--oks-palette-*), making light/dark mode theming effortless. 🔹 Accessibility First: Follows WAI-ARIA authoring practices. Full keyboard support and prefers-reduced-motion are respected by default. 🔹 Modular Architecture: Animations are subtle, and heavier motion libraries are kept strictly behind optional entry points. 🔹 Highly Tested: Shipped with user-centric tests (Testing Library) ensuring aria semantics and rendering behavior. I currently have a solid base of over 30 robust components published to npm—including complex Forms, Modals, Tabs, Drawers, Dropdowns, and more—but this is just the beginning. My personal goal is to scale this to 100+ components and advanced widgets over the coming months. The biggest frontend trend right now is not a new framework. It is this: Frontend is becoming more server-first and compiler-assisted. For a long time, frontend developers spent too much energy on: manual optimizations, performance fixes, and deciding what should run on the client. Now the direction is changing. With React and Next.js moving forward, we are entering a phase where: the compiler handles more optimization frameworks provide better defaults the server does more heavy lifting developers can focus more on product experience And honestly, that is a good shift. Because frontend was never meant to be just about fighting rerenders, hooks, and bundle issues. Great frontend is about: building smooth user experiences creating fast and clean interfaces improving usability making products feel simple and trustworthy The real value of a frontend developer is moving higher. From: “How well can you manually optimize everything?” To: “How well can you design the right experience, structure, and product flow?” That is why I believe the future of frontend is not just better tools. It is less framework struggle and more product thinking. Day 6 - Frontend Diaries 👉 I thought clicking a button is a simple action While working on frontend, my thinking was straightforward user clicks a button action gets triggered and that’s it But in real scenarios, it’s not that simple ▪️ What if the user clicks multiple times? ▪️ What if the request is still in progress? ▪️ What if the same action gets triggered again before the first one completes? I started noticing unexpected behavior like: ▪️ duplicate requests ▪️ multiple API calls ▪️ and inconsistent state That’s when I realized a button click is not just an event it’s something that needs to be controlled Disabling the button during loading preventing repeated actions handling user interaction carefully Frontend is not just about responding to clicks it’s about controlling how those interactions happen #frontenddevelopment #reactjs #webdevelopment #fullstackdeveloper #softwareengineering #buildinpublic #developers

🚀 ~13 Years in Frontend Engineering — a few things that actually stayed true. I still remember struggling with jQuery bugs, wondering if things would ever “click”. Today, I’ve worked on platforms, design systems, and applications used at scale. Looking back, the biggest lessons weren’t about tools, they were about how you think: 👉 Technologies change fast. Fundamentals compound. jQuery → Angular → React → Server Components Every transition felt easier because the core stayed the same: → JavaScript → Browser behavior → Rendering & performance Trends come and go. Fundamentals give you leverage. 👉 Performance is not an optimization, it’s product experience. 100ms delay = drop in engagement Things like: → Core Web Vitals → SSR / streaming → Bundle strategy They’re not “nice to have”, they directly impact users and business. 👉 Readable code > clever code. Always. The best systems I’ve seen weren’t the most complex, they were the easiest to understand and extend. Future you (and your team) will thank you. 👉 Your impact grows through others. 🚀 Why setTimeout(fn, 0) Is NOT Immediate A very common misunderstanding 👇 👉 setTimeout(fn, 0) does NOT run immediately. 🧠 What Actually Happens • It gets pushed to the Macrotask Queue • Waits for Call Stack to be empty • Then gets executed 📌 Example setTimeout(() => console.log("Timeout"), 0); for (let i = 0; i < 1000000000; i++) {} 👉 Output: Timeout (after delay) 🔍 Why Delay Happens?
