One thing I learned building 25+ microservices at TCS: A REST API is easy to build. A good REST API is hard. Here's what separates the two 👇 ✅ Consistent error responses — your client should never guess what went wrong. Use a standard error body every time. ✅ Pagination on every list endpoint — returning 10,000 records because nobody added ?page=0&size=20 is a production incident waiting to happen ✅ Idempotency on POST — especially in banking/fintech. Duplicate requests happen. Design for them. ✅ Versioning from day one — /api/v1/ costs nothing upfront and saves everything later ✅ Global exception handling — one @ControllerAdvice beats 50 try-catch blocks Three years of Spring Boot will teach you these the hard way.
