I spent a morning optimizing my Claude Code setup. Here's what I implemented — and why it actually matters: 🔷 1. Code Graph Indexing Installed codegraph as an MCP server. Claude now has a pre-indexed knowledge graph of my entire project. No more burning tokens reading files it already knows. 🔷 2. MCP Server Stack Configured servers directly in ~/.claude.json. Sequential thinking + codegraph loaded at startup. Claude walks into every session already equipped. 🔷 3. CLAUDE.md — Persistent Memory One file that holds my stack, conventions, and off-limit files. Claude remembers. I stop repeating myself. Every. Single. Session. 🔷 4. Custom Slash Commands (Skills) Built /debug, /review, and /plan. One command. Full structured prompt. No more typing the same instructions from scratch. 🔷 5. Auto-Compact at 70% Set CLAUDE_AUTOCOMPACT_PCT_OVERRIDE=70. Context gets summarized before it hits the wall — not after things start breaking. 🔷 6. /clear Between Tasks Tiny habit. Massive payoff. Wipe context before switching tasks so old work doesn't corrupt new thinking. 🔷 7. .claudeignore node_modules/, .env, build artifacts — all blocked. Hard deny rules in settings.json. Claude reads what matters. Nothing else. 🔷 8. Model Switching Aliases use-opus for planning. use-sonnet for coding. Two shell aliases. Right model, right task, right cost. Tech team leads who ban AI tools from core services aren't protecting quality. They're protecting a workflow they understand. We rolled out GitHub Copilot with custom instructions — stack-specific, scoped to our NestJS services, MongoDB aggregations, LLM integration patterns. One lead at a partner team refused. "AI shouldn't generate production logic." Their engineers wrote the same boilerplate three sprints straight. Same DTO patterns. Same error handler scaffolding. By hand. Every time. Our team shipped two new integrations in that window. The quality argument collapses fast. AI-generated code still goes through review. The diff exists. The PR exists. Same standards apply. What changes is the blank file problem — you skip it. I get the skepticism. If you've debugged a hallucinated schema reference or untangled a service with no domain context behind it, the hesitation is earned. But the answer isn't the ban. It's a clear eval standard — what AI output ships as-is, what needs a full rewrite, and who owns that call in review. Leads who skip that and just block the tool have moved the problem into their engineers' heads. It doesn't disappear. It becomes invisible. Hey connections 👋 For full-stack and backend engineers, it’s no longer just about calling an LLM API. The real challenge now is how we architect the systems around it. Here are three major shifts I’ve been tracking this quarter: 1️⃣ GraphRAG is gaining real traction Traditional RAG is starting to hit limits with multi-hop reasoning. The move toward combining knowledge graphs with vector search (GraphRAG) is changing how we think about data layers—less about similarity, more about relationships. This has big implications for how we model and query data. 2️⃣ WebAssembly (Wasm) for AI inference There’s a strong push toward running lightweight models at the edge or inside backend services using Wasm. This reduces dependency on heavy containers and Python runtimes, offering better portability and near-native performance. It’s a shift in how we approach AI compute and deployment. 3️⃣ AI-native API fuzzing As AI accelerates development, the attack surface grows. Security is evolving too—agentic LLMs are now being used to autonomously fuzz APIs and test business logic in CI/CD pipelines. This is a meaningful step toward truly shifting security left. The bottom line: The hard part isn’t building AI anymore—it’s orchestrating it securely, efficiently, and at scale within our systems. What Happened to Claude Code❓ Last month, Claude Code saved me 40 hours. This month, something broke. On March 31, Claude Code released an update. Token consumption spiked 4–10x overnight. I went from working full days on the tool to hitting daily limits in hours. I maxed out a $100/month plan in a single week doing the same work that cost $5 the week before.
