🚀 DAY 3 – #LearningInPublic (Python Session – Functions & Higher Order Thinking) 🧠 Today’s Focus: Writing Cleaner Python Using Functions & Built-in Tools Today’s notebook session helped me understand how to write smarter and cleaner Python code using functions and powerful built-in utilities. 📌 What I Practiced Today ✅ Creating Functions I learned how to define reusable blocks of code using def and return results using return. This makes code: • Cleaner • Reusable • Easier to debug • More modular ✅ Higher-Order Functions I explored functions that work with other functions: • map() • filter() • lambda functions These allow transforming data in a single line instead of writing long loops. Example idea: Transforming dataset values using map() and lambda without writing explicit loops. ✅ enumerate() Function I learned how enumerate() helps when I need: • Index • Value at the same time while looping. This makes iteration much more readable. ✅ args and kwargs I practiced writing flexible functions using: • *args → multiple positional arguments • **kwargs → multiple keyword arguments This allows functions to accept dynamic inputs — very useful for datasets. ✅ Working With Dataset-like Rows I also explored calculating values using loops and generator expressions, like summing selected columns from rows. This helped me understand how data processing works internally in data science workflows. 💡 Key Takeaway Today I moved from: Writing simple code → Writing reusable logic Basic loops → Functional programming style Rigid functions → Flexible functions Slowly building the mindset required for Data Science and Python mastery. Day 10: Functional Programming & Algorithmic Thinking in Python 🐍⚙️ As I go deeper into Python for Machine Learning, it is becoming clear that writing code that simply works isn't enough. It has to be efficient, readable, and scalable. Today's deep dive was all about optimizing execution speed and moving toward functional programming. Here are the massive concepts I unlocked today: ⚡ Lambda Functions (Anonymous Functions): Moved past standard definitions to write clean, one-line functions. While they aren't meant for code reuse, they are incredible when paired with Higher-Order Functions to control behavior dynamically. 🗺️ Map, Filter, Reduce: This is where data pipelines start to make sense! Map: Applying logic to every item in a dataset (e.g., doubling values or extracting specific keys). Filter: Sifting through data based on a strict condition. Reduce: Condensing a large dataset down to a single output (e.g., finding the max value). 🔁 Recursion: Mastered the art of functions calling themselves. I learned the critical importance of defining a strict Base Case to prevent infinite loops, and how recursion breaks massive algorithmic problems down into smaller, solvable steps using the Call Stack. 🧠 Memoization & Space-Time Tradeoff: Recursion can sometimes cause exponential time complexity (like the Fibonacci sequence calculation). I learned how to use Memoization (caching previously computed results in a dictionary) to drastically reduce execution time.
