🚀 React Re-renders Explained (Things I Learned After 2+ Years) When I started with React, I thought: “Re-render = bad performance” After working on real projects, I learned: 👉 Re-renders are normal — unnecessary re-renders are the real problem. 🔹 What Actually Causes Re-renders? 📘 Tech4Dev – Frontend Development Program Month 5 | Week 3 | Day 3 & Day 4 Hooks, Routing & Career Conversations Day 3 and Day 4 of this week were quite intense, combining theory, practical explanations, and reflective discussions. We covered some core React concepts and hooks, including: useEffect useReducer useCallback Continued explanations on routing and routes There were also interactive question-and-answer sessions, where we asked questions, clarified confusing areas, and explored how these concepts work in real-world applications. Beyond technical lessons, we had meaningful conversations about the market side of programming. We discussed the role of a frontend developer, career expectations, and important decisions—such as whether frontend developers are also expected to build mobile applications after designing and developing web interfaces, depending on the company or team structure. We also talked about how developers can use AI tools responsibly to generate responses, assist with problem-solving, and improve productivity without replacing core learning. These days were challenging, but they helped me reflect on my learning process. I’m gaining a stronger hold on loops, but I’ve realized the need to go back and strengthen my JavaScript fundamentals, especially arrays and array methods, since they are heavily used in React. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 When I started my journey as a frontend developer, I thought writing UI code was the main job. With experience, I realized frontend development is much more than that. Here are a few things I truly wish I had known earlier: 1️⃣ 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 Frameworks change, but concepts like closures, event loop, and async behavior stay relevant. Strong JavaScript made React much easier for me. 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 Readable and maintainable code helps teams scale. Writing simple, clear logic is always better than over-optimized solutions. 3️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 Not everything needs global state. Understanding when to use local state, Context API, or Redux avoids unnecessary re-renders. 4️⃣ 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 Console logs, breakpoints, and understanding error messages saved me more time than tutorials ever did. 5️⃣ 𝗨𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 Performance, accessibility, responsiveness, and user experience are equally important. 6️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 Explaining your code, asking the right questions, and collaborating with backend and product teams matters a lot. Frontend development is a journey of continuous learning. Looking back, these lessons shaped how I build applications today. The moment Frontend development finally "clicked" for me was when I met React. When I started my journey, the advice was always the same: “Master the fundamentals. Stick to HTML, CSS, and Vanilla JavaScript.” That advice is 100% solid. The core languages are the foundation. But let’s be honest: Modern frameworks are where the magic happens. Day 4 of 60 | Mistakes I No Longer Make as a Junior Frontend Developer As I keep learning, I’ve realized that growth in tech isn’t only about what you learn it’s also about what you stop doing. First of all, no one is above mistakes, especially in tech. You can still forget something as small as a semicolon (or miss a bracket) and suddenly your code breaks. That happens to everyone. But there are certain mistakes you make mainly because you’re a beginner and as you grow, you learn to drop them and adapt better practices. Here are some mistakes I no longer make: ❌ Writing code without understanding why it works ❌ Ignoring browser errors instead of actually reading them ❌ Overcomplicating simple UI logic ❌ Skipping fundamentals like HTML semantics and CSS basics ❌ Being afraid to ask questions or look things up Now, I focus more on: ✔️ Writing clear and readable code ✔️ Understanding concepts instead of memorizing them ✔️ Building step by step and learning as I go Progress isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being better than you were yesterday.
