What you need to know before you jump into refactoring code... Before refactoring, I think it's important to understand what it means. Generally: to change code to drive improvements without changing the external behavior. I say generally because there are always exceptions. With this in mind, understand what the goal of your refactoring is. Next, come up with a plan that allows you to accomplish this.
