Dave Plummer…the legend who wrote Windows Task Manager…recently shared why modern software feels so sluggish despite our massive hardware advantages. He argues we’ve traded 'scarcity-driven discipline' for a culture of bloat, abstraction, and misplaced incentives. As engineering leaders, we need to stop accepting “not awful” as the standard (balanced with not allowing perfection to be an enemy). It’s time to treat performance as a core feature again, gate our builds, and remind teams that constraints are the foundation of true excellence. Ironically, AI now actually makes that not only possible, but business-cost achievable. https://lnkd.in/gGmb2hwt

🔥 Something I'm Learning Today Just spent time exploring how modern distributed systems handle consensus. The complexity is fascinating - we take for granted that our databases "just work," but underneath, there's incredible engineering keeping everything consistent. Key insights: • Raft and Paxos aren't just academic - they power real systems • Trade-offs between consistency and availability are real • Network partitions happen more often than we think What's the most complex system you've worked with? #DistributedSystems #Engineering #Backend #Consensus #TechInsights

If your business is heavily invested in the Microsoft ecosystem and you've got some complexity involved that has you stumped, I can't say enough about Jesse Vaught and his team at Group Aware, extremely expert and professional and with great people (i.e. not too nerdy).
