Most people learn to code backwards. They sit through hours of tutorials on Python, JavaScript, frameworks, syntax, data structures. They take notes. They watch one more video. And after all that studying, they still haven't built anything. There's a faster way. Build first. Learn second. Open Claude Code and tell it what you want to make. Let it build. Watch it work. Then, once you're staring at something real that actually runs on your computer, ask it: What did we just build together? What languages did we use? Walk me through it. Now you're learning with context. You're not memorizing abstract concepts. You're dissecting something you made. Something that works. Something you care about because it's yours. This is the shift that's so hard for people to make. We've been trained to think learning has to come before doing. But with AI, that order is flipped. The doing teaches you faster than any course ever could. You don't need to study coding to start coding. Let me tell you about a project that taught me more than 6 months of tutorials. In 2023, I built "PGFinder" — a full stack property search platform. The idea was simple. Help people find paying guest accommodations based on location, budget and preferences. The reality of building it? Anything but simple. The frontend was React. The backend was Python. The database had to handle real time search filtering across multiple parameters simultaneously. The first version was slow. Not a little slow. Embarrassingly slow. A search query was taking over 3 seconds to return results. 3 seconds is an eternity for a user. So I went back to the database layer. Rewrote the queries. Added proper indexing. Optimised the filtering logic. The same query dropped to under 400 milliseconds. That moment taught me something no tutorial ever did — Performance problems are almost always data problems in disguise. It's not your React components. It's not your Python logic. It's how you structure and query your data. The second lesson was about scope. I started building every feature I could imagine. Location filters. Budget sliders. Photo galleries. Reviews. Maps integration. I had to stop myself and ask — what does a user actually need on day one? Just the search. Just the results. Just the contact. Ship the core. Add the rest later. That single mindset shift saved weeks of wasted development time. Building real projects teaches you things that no course ever will. 🚀 From JavaScript to Python in 5 Minutes? Here’s What Happened… Today I worked on a personal project where I tried shifting my codebase from JavaScript to Python — and honestly, I was surprised by how smooth the process was. With the help of GitHub Copilot, I gave access to my existing codebase, and within minutes… boom 💥 Most of the JS code was converted into Python! It felt almost magical, but it also got me thinking 👇 ✅ Upside: If you already have a good understanding of programming concepts, tools like this can be a complete game changer. They can save hours of manual work and help you experiment faster. ⚠️ Downside: Giving full access to your codebase — especially in production — can be risky. There are concerns around security, data exposure, and unintended changes. 👉 Lesson learned: Use AI tools smartly. They’re powerful assistants, not replacements for careful decision-making.
