Hainan gibbons roamed freely in the 1950s and '60s, but by the 1980s, their numbers had dwindled. Now, bioacoustics technology listens to their calls to understand behavior, track movements, and protect their habitat without causing disturbance. Say hello to the latest bot... Don't worry, it's not another chatbot 😉 ORNL researchers are developing a new e-DNA bot that will autonomously collect, process, and analyze environmental DNA in real time, delivering faster insights into aquatic ecosystems. The technology could significantly reduce the cost of biological monitoring for #hydropower facilities and uncover new insights into how species interact with energy infrastructure. Environmental intelligence means understanding what’s happening in the environment as it happens and using that knowledge to make better decisions. It combines: ●Sensors that collect real-world data ●AI that analyzes patterns ●Cloud systems that process information in real time Together, they help cities and infrastructure teams move from reacting late to responding early. For example, environmental intelligence can help detect: • Small underground ground movement • Early signs of infrastructure stress • Changes in air quality across neighborhoods • Shifts in water conditions before they become risks Instead of waiting for visible problems, decision-makers receive early signals from the environment itself. At Mongeo, environmental intelligence helps turn environmental data into actionable insight that supports safer infrastructure and smarter cities. Because smarter cities don’t just collect data. They understand what their environment is telling them. #EnvironmentalIntelligence #SmartCities #UrbanInnovation #AIoT #InfrastructureMonitoring #ClimateTech #FutureOfCities #Mongeo

New technology is giving us a clearer picture of how the Adirondacks are changing. As the Adirondack Explorer recently highlighted, satellite data and other remote sensing tools are helping scientists track shifts in climate and landscape conditions across the Park. The more clearly we can see long term patterns, the better prepared we are to protect trails, waters, forests, and communities. For ADK, this kind of science reinforces the importance of pairing on-the-ground stewardship with data that helps us understand the bigger picture. It also reminds us that communicating science clearly is part of the work. Research only becomes useful when people can connect it to the places they know, care about, and want to protect. The Adirondacks have always asked us to pay attention. Today, new tools are helping us do that with greater clarity and helping guide the decisions that will shape the future of New York’s wildlands and waters.

Can data restore trust in our rivers? This #EarthDay, the conversation is shifting. We know the challenges: sewage spills, algal blooms, and sediment surges. In 2024, 83% of English rivers were found to be polluted, and the public trust has reached an all-time low. But a new generation of digital solutions is moving us from crisis mode to stewardship mode. This report highlights how AI, satellite tech, and wireless sensors are providing the early warning systems our ecosystems desperately need. From sediment tracking in the Alpine Rhine to wireless flow monitoring in the UK, we finally have the tools to protect biodiversity in real-time. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dZYXRN8X
