Can a frontend project demonstrate full-cycle data handling? With Owly, I moved beyond static layouts to build a data-driven profile application that manages real-time information through JavaScript. This project was my playground for mastering how a modern web app consumes data and translates it into a functional user interface. Technical Deep Dive (How it works): 📡 Asynchronous Data Fetching: I implemented API integration using the fetch() API (or Axios) to retrieve user profiles dynamically. This taught me how to handle Promises, manage loading states, and deal with potential network errors. 🧩 Dynamic DOM Injection: Instead of hardcoding content, I developed a logic that parses JSON data and injects it into the DOM. This modular rendering ensures that the UI updates automatically whenever the data source changes. 🛠️ State & Event Logic: I engineered the interactive elements (like social links and action buttons) using custom event listeners. This ensures a reactive experience where user inputs trigger specific logic flows without page reloads. 🧹 Clean Code Architecture: I separated the API logic from the UI rendering. This separation of concerns is a fundamental principle that I later carried over into my React development, making the codebase scalable and easier to debug. Alhamdulillah, I’ve successfully converted the entire UI into working code using React and Tailwind CSS. But what if you want to reuse logic across components? 🤔 👉 That’s where Custom Hooks come in 💡 💡 What are Custom Hooks? Custom Hooks are just JavaScript functions that use React hooks internally. 📌 Rule: 👉 Must start with use (naming convention) 🔥 Why do we need them? I almost broke a staging environment for an enterprise-level client because of this mistake. Here's what happened. I was building a website for an enterprise client — full stack, end to end. Frontend in React. Content managed through Strapi CMS. Data fetched via GraphQL. I had built the entire page system using reusable components. Each page was made up of different template components — hero, cards, sections, CTAs. Clean architecture. Looked great. Then I connected GraphQL. And the site became painfully slow. I couldn't figure out why at first. Everything was built correctly. The components were rendering. The data was coming through. But the page was taking forever to load. I dug in. Turns out — my GraphQL query was fetching ALL page data for EVERY component across the ENTIRE site. Every time a user landed on one page — the frontend was pulling data for every single page, every single component, all at once. Imagine ordering one coffee and the waiter brings you the entire menu. That's what I was doing to the browser. The fix? Instead of one giant query fetching everything — I restructured it to fetch only the specific component data for the specific page being loaded. Page-level GraphQL queries. Not site-level. Load time dropped. Site felt instant. The lesson I took from this: GraphQL gives you the power to fetch exactly what you need. If your site is slow — the query is almost always the problem, not the component. This is the kind of thing that never shows up in tutorials. Only in real projects. I spent my session diving into dynamic data management—building a Name Manager that handles full CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) logic. To move from static pages to interactive apps, I focused on these three technical pillars: 🔹 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲): In React, components reset on every render. useState acts as the persistent "brain," allowing the app to remember data even when the UI updates. I practiced using setter functions to trigger re-renders safely. 🔹 .𝐦𝐚𝐩() (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐈 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲): This is how we turn raw data into an interface. It loops through an array and transforms strings into interactive components. It’s the engine behind every dynamic list you see online. 🔹 .𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫() (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞): React rule #1: Don't mutate state. Instead of "erasing" data from the original array, I used .filter() to create a brand-new copy. This is the secret to building predictable, bug-free applications. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲: ✅ Create: Added new entries using the Spread Operator [...]. ✅ Read: Rendered a dynamic, real-time list with .map(). ✅ Update/Delete: Built the logic to modify and remove specific items without breaking the state. I hit a button. Watched my job go from Waiting → Active → Completed in real time. That's when the queue stopped being a backend concept and started feeling like a real product. Phase 3: Job Status Tracking + Frontend Demo. Here's what the system looked like before this phase: User uploads → job enters queue → worker processes But the user had zero visibility. No idea if the job was waiting, processing, or done. No idea if it failed. So I built: → GET /status/:jobId on the backend → A simple frontend with a button, a job ID display, and a live status badge → setInterval() polling the status every second until completion Now the full flow looks like this: Click upload → POST /upload → get jobId → show "Waiting" → worker picks it up → show "Active" → worker finishes → show "Completed" But getting here wasn't clean. I hit 4 errors before it worked: 1. The upload button wasn't responding. I thought the HTML was broken. It wasn't — the fetch was failing silently before the UI could update. 2. I opened the HTML as file:// in the browser. That caused browser security restrictions and unstable requests. Frontend needs to be served properly. 3. CORS blocked everything. Frontend on port 5500. Backend on port 3000. Browser refused the cross-origin request. Fixed with app.use(cors()). 4. I kept debugging the wrong layer. The real issue was always the network, not the HTML. The biggest lesson from these 4 errors: Not every button issue is a UI issue. Open the browser console first. F12 tells the truth faster than guessing. What this phase actually proved: ✅ Queue stores jobs correctly ✅ Worker processes them asynchronously ✅ Status API tracks lifecycle ✅ Frontend consumes backend in real time ✅ Full-stack async architecture works end to end Before this phase: a backend queue script. After this phase: an interactive async processing demo. The video shows the whole thing live. Watch the status badge update in real time. Day 15/30 of Consistency Challenge 🚀 🎯 Project 2: MERN Expense Tracker Finally cracked yesterday's bug. What I Fixed: The issue was a race condition. The UI was rendering before user data was ready. So instead of relying solely on a global fetch, I updated the user state immediately on login/signup from the respective components.
