This Tiny Clipboard Change Can Make Users Fall in Love With Your App I was reading a blog post on JavaScript Clipboard API where I found something interesting. Most developers ship copy-paste functionality the lazy way. Button triggers writeText(). String goes to clipboard. Done. But that’s not how you handle copy-paste functionality in latest web applications. You’re leaving value on the table. Apps like Figma, Notion, VS Code don’t do this. When you copy from them, the clipboard holds multiple representations of what you copied. Not as a hack. As the actual design. 1. Plain text for when you paste into Slack or a terminal. 2. Formatted HTML for when you paste into Google Docs or Word. 3. Structured JSON for when you paste back into the original app. One action.
